Bruno Apol- lonio Toronto, were Sunday dinner guests with Mrs. John Layng and Dyana. A good crowd of 140 attend- ed the U.C.W. Bazaar on Wednesday afternoon. The bazaar was a success as over $600.00 was made. Tea and lunch was also served. The U.C.W. meeting for the month of November will be held at the home of Mrs. Llew Hallowell on the 13th at 8 O'clock. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Trim entertained the couple on their 40th Wedding Anniversary by taking them out to supper and later gathering at their home when Mr. and Mrs. Bill Trim, Oshawa, Mrs. and Mrs. Gord Trim, Starkville, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coulson, Oshawa, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Simpson, Oshawa also joined in on the celebrating. Also itdwas Bert's birthday so "Happy Anniver- sary" and "Happy Birthday Bert." Sympathy is expressed to the familles of the late Mrs. Alice Maude Boughen who passed away Wednesday Oct. 30th. Funeral service was held at Barlow Funeral Home Friday at 2 o'clock. Interment Orono Cemetery. The C4th Anniversary Ser- vice of Shiloh was well attended on Sunday. Rev. Gordon Montgomery conduct- ed the service with guest speaker, Rev. Roundel of Greenbank United Church assisting. The sermon was on "Little Things" by Rev. Roundel. The next service at Shiloh will be November l7th. Miss Elizabeth Shantz is the new Nurse-in Charge, heading the staff of nurses serving the Victorian Order of Nurses for the Region of Durham. She replaces Miss Kay Eby who resigned to take up similar work and residence in another area of Ontario. Miss Shantz was born in Kitchener, but lived and was educated in nearby Waterloo. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Clare Shantz of Waterloo. Following her primary and secondary education in Water- loo, she attended the MeMas- ter University in Hamilton, Ontario where she received her Bachelor of Science de- gree in nursing in 1969. Her first post with the VON was as Nurse-in-Charge for the Victorian County Branch in Lindsay where she served until November of 1971. From there she went as Nurse-in- Charge of the York Branch (Richmond Hill), a responsi- bility she carried until her present appointment as Nurse-in-Charge of the Vie- torian Order of Nurses for all areas within the Region of Durham.
