Suffer Two More Loses In a hard skating clean game played at Grafton on Nov. 21L Cobourg scored with one minute left in the game to edge the Toros 5 to 4. It was an exciting well played game as the lead bounced back and forth. Scorin for the Toros were Scott Sellers, Kevin Ward, Paul Cascagnette, and Greg Brunt with Jody Ross, Murray Ruddy, Bill Wright, and Cas- cagnette picking up the as- sists. Markham was in town on Saturday Nov. 23 for an exhibition game and handed the Toros a 6 to 2 set back. It was one of the roughest games the Toros have played this year as 17 penalties were called with Bowmanville pick- ing up 9. Trailing 4-2 after two peri- ods the Toros looked as if they would come back but an early third period Markham goal salted away the victory. Scoring for the Toros were Wayde Preston and Jody Ross with Jim Hogarth and Steve Frank picking up the assists. Bowmanville pulled their¢goalie, but were unable to score the equalizer. Todd Stephens played the entire game, Scott Bate being away. The host club arranges for accommodation for the com- petitors, meals and trans por- tation for the officials, publici- ty for the event, ticket sales and a myriad of other details. Despite the fact that figure skating gets little or no public funding, Canada bas a very respectable record in interna- tional competitions. Since 1948 when Barbara Ann Scott was Olympic Gold Medalist until last year when Karen Mag- nussen won the tadies' Sin- gles event in the Worlds, Canada bas maintained her tradition of excellence. As Canadians, we owe a vote of thanks to the hard working people like Jim Allen and club president Bob Armstrong who put on these championships. The second goal scored by Jerry Leddy who again was right on top of the play came at the 7 min. 38 sec. mark of the first period, and the assist i by defenceman Mark Starkey was also well earned as he layed steadily on the blue ine and kept Ridges hemmed in their own end. The third goal came at 6 min. 25 sec. of the 2nd period on goal by Eddy Gruyters assisted by Russell Green- ham, This goal came as a result of hard work and not lettin up, which is Green- hams and Gruyters' style and suits their ability to han die the puck and skate.
