Scott, six years old-, has his birthday on New Year's Day, Jan. lst, Britt, four, celebrates his the day before Christmas, Dec. 24th and Cheryl-Ann follows up with her birthday on Feb. llth. She'll be just a year old. They are the children of Allun and Shirley Cole, Frederick Avenue and their grandmother is Mrs. Bernice Cole, also of Bowmanville. They wish everyone a Happy New Year. MAPLE ITMAPLE GROVE CUBS NEWS On Monday, December, l6th we had our annual Santa Claus party, at the Ma ple Grove United Church Hall. AIl cubs had invited their brothers, sisters, moms and dads. We ail had fun and Santa Claus arnived about 10 minutes late, but it sure was Worth waiting for. Each boy received a gift from Santa, and -afterwards exchanged gifts. Sacdy Soia and Ed even got some ice time. Tbey did't score aoy geais but sure had fun. The goal scorers, for Maple Grove were, finst. peniod, Robert Davey, Philip Boyd; Second period, Robent Davey 2 goals; third period, Chnis Vailleccount. The sconens for the Hampton club we dîdn't get. '(sonry). Tommy Colliss played an excellent game in net fer Maple Grove. On Tuesday, Decemben 3lst we had our accuai fathen and son hoczkey, gamne. The ahr did't hav'e toc mnany players, se we put four lajIdies in the Ilice up. The game went'as follows: finst period stanted very slow with two penalties going te the fathers; Mn. Cannochan for holding, Mn. Johnson for tripping. The fathens got the finst geai, Mn. Van Bottel sconed at about the eight minute mark. Second period, the cubs got four goals in that period; scorens were- Robent Davey 2 geais, Scott Johnson, Donald Daigie ene each. The fathers get fivegoals in the second pericd, Mn. Banchard, two goals, Mn. Johnson, Mn. Van Bottel, Mn. Thiele. one each. The thind perîod stanted off very fast; Mn. Buban played a very good game in net for the fathers. He just kept stopping the cubs oven and even. Finally the cubs got four goals in the third pericd. The goal getters wene - Stanley Zealand, Robent Van Hemmen one each, And-y Davey 2 goals. The fathers got one gealinb the third period. Mn. Colliss was the lucky one, scoring on bis son Tommy. Final nesuits the cubs eight, fathers seven. Yes, we ail had fun, even the ladies, On Wednesday, Januany lStb is our cext bowling nigbt, stanting at .5:30. sharp. On Satunday, January 25th is our annual Pine Wood- Derby races. This yean, the races will be held in the Onono United Cburcb. The Mapie Grove cubs wiii race their cars at 1 o'clock. We will have 27 boys racing%their cars from oun pack. ooLuck. Phillip Nichois has been home since December 2th with the Clarence Nichols and will be returning te Guelph for a study, termn after New Year's; Garfield bas been home wlth bis parents Mr. and Mrs. Murray, Payne, also since December 20 and will be returflifg to university in Toronto after the New, Vear. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Mar- chais de Le Roche and son lradlev of Ottawa have been spending the Christmas holi- dfay withï Mr. and Mrs. Archie Ford, Port Hope. Church service was well attended at Welcome United Church, on Sunday morning considering the number cf p eople away. The church was Iovely with flowers and re- maining Christmas decora- tions. The lay reader for part cf the responsive reading was Roland Bowman. The theme of the mcrnings message was based on the story cf the birth in the stable and the fact that people not in topplaces have opportunity, sometimes great- er than those in highplaces.
