On interviewing the press reporters for the Newcastle Lion's Club little news could be produced. The Lion's did meet on January 6, but the guest speaker did not make bis appearance. No doubt there are many people suffering with afflic- tions and ilîs at home, but some who are in hospital include: Mrs. Doreen Nesbitt, Miss Hattie Mason,, Carol Thompson,' Mr. Thomas Len- nard, Mrs. Edna Selby, Mr. Ed Hood and Mrs. Juanita Brady. We pray for better healthfor ai . On Monday, January 13, Grand Master Harry Wade and his wife made their official visit in Lindsay. The Newcastle Lionettes met on Thursday evening at the home of director Irene Cunningham. At his meeting they had an election of officers for 1975-76. They are, Presi- dent: Mabs Barr; Vice-Presi- dnBetty Adams; Secre- Hazel Cra'go Mr. and Mrs. William Gib- bie, Oshawa visited hier uncle Mr. and Mrs. Harve Britton on Saturday. Since Mr. Gîbbie's retirement from the P.U.C. they have travelled to Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. Their pictures from these countries were greatly enjoy- ed by the Brittons. On Sunday, January 12, at the Newcastle United Church, Rev. Thomas Smith administ- ered the sacrament of bap- tism. The four babies whio were baptised were: Barbara Ellen, daughter of Lynda and Charles Crowther; Andrea Elizabeth, daughter of Dianne and Douglas Ferguson; Jan- ice Marie, daughter of Pearl and David Rickard, and Terence-James, son of Donna and Andrew Van Drunen. Mr. Harry Jose presented the baptismal certificates anid extended the right hand of fellowship to the parents. Mr. Alfred Perrin gave a report on the coming-congregational meeting. Rev. Smith's sermon "A New Person" was based on the text "Behold, I Make Al Things New" from the Book of Revelation. With Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crowther for Barbara Ellen's christening were hier grand- parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank inger Oshawa and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Murphy New- castle and Miss Edith Brem- ner, Cobourg. On Thursday, January 9, the Newcastle 'Public Utilities held its regular meeting. Since Mr. John Rîckard will be moving out of this area, hie has retired and the new chairman is Mr. Irv McCullough and Mr. Alfred Gray is the vice chairman. Miss Glenda Johnson is holidaying la Mexico. On Sturday Mr. Harry Wade was in Toronito attenld- ing an Advisory Board Meet- ing at the Grand Lodge Office, while his wife Mabel had lunch with Mrs. Margaret Duck- worth. Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade were Mr. and Mrs. George Vanstone, St. Mary's. At St. George's Anglican Church, on Sunday Jan. 12, Holy Family Sunday was observed. The Rev. Robert Haye preached on Christian commitment. Her many friends wili be pleased to know that Mrs. P.F. LeGresley is home again from the hospital. Committee Opposed To LLBO Outiet Across From Clark e High Sehool Newcastle Conmmittee of the Whole made a recommenda- tion to council that the Liquor License Board of Ontario be advised that council is op- posed to a liquor outiet at theý Forum Restaurant on Hwy. 115 and 35,,and that a copy of this resolution and the ac- companing correspondence be sent to the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Ed- ucation, the two parliament members in this area, the local chambers of commerce, The Great Pine Ridge Tourist Association, and the minister- ial association. The Forum Restaurant which is located across from Clarke High School, has made application to the LLBO for a license, having submitted plans to them as to what renovations would be done to attain this license. The cor- respondence received by the Committee of the Whole was from the LLBO. The motion was passed with two dissenting votes. Council- lor Don Wearn and Don Allun voted against the motion on the grounds that council didn't know what they were oppos- ing. An eariier motion by Counillor Wearn stated that a recommendation be sent 'o council asking the LLBO to send plans that were submit- ted to LLBO to councîl 50 that they could comment. Also that the Forum Restaurant make an application by submitting OBITUARY ELIZABETH ANN MePHAIL KING Blessed with great spirit, cheerfulness, and willingness to help others, Elizabeth Ann McPhail King, aged 76, passed away in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, on Saturdày, January 4, 1975,ý following a lengthy illness. Born and educated in Well- ington, Quay, Northumber- land, England, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Poolton. In 1916 she was married to Benjamen Thompson'King,, residing on High and Elgin Streets in Bowmanville. A: member of St. John's Anglican Church, the Ladies Le gion Auxiliary, and the Rebekah Beehive Lodge she leaves to mourn her passing, a daughter Gladys, (Mrs. Ar- thur' Etcher), a son John, one grandson and five grand- daughters. Reverend Thomas Gracie officiated at the funeral serv- ice held on Tuesday, at the Morris Funeral Chapel. Pail-bearers were Messrs. Lionel Parker, Guy Polley, and four cousins, William, Thomas, Robert and Albert Graham. Many beautiful floral trib- utes were received la her memory. . Councillor Ent- wisle then commented be felt the ministry had done the minimum amount of work in providing a solution, and that approval for a LLBO oulet at the Forum Restaurant would nulify what had been done. Surviving are Peter, of Oshawa, Stewart of Toronto, Amy (Mrs. George Young, Port Burwell, Ont.) Dorothy, (Mrs. L. Downey, Cobourg), John, Scarborougb, and Arth- ur, of Courtice, 1 brother Andrew Young, 1 sister, Mrs. A Purcell (Charlotte), both of Port Hope, 34 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
