Mn. and Mrs. Walton G. aiscoe were in Peterborough on Saturday, March 8th to attend the funeral service of her brother-in-law, Mr. J. Howard Moebus, who suffered a fatal heart attack in San Juan Puerto Rico while he and Mrs. Moebus were on a Caribbean cruise. Funeral service and commitai was from Trinity United Church, Peterborough. Mr. Moebus was retired, after having been associated with the Peterbor- ough School System for many years. Stir corn oil into corn syrup; mix thoroughly. Stir in eggs. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt and stir into corn syrup mixture. Stir in melted chocolate and nuts. Pour into well greased 9 x 9 x 1¾/4inch baking pan. Bake in 325 degree over 35 to 40 minutes or until brownies test done. Cut into squares when cool. Makes 36 (12-inch) squares. Brian J. Stainton, a Soph- omore at General Motors Institute in Flint Michigan, has been named to the Dean's List for the Fall, 1974 semes- ter. Brian is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stainton of 72 Duke Street, Bowmanville, Ontario. Brian is a coopera- tive student with GM of Canada in Oshawa, Ontario. GMI is an accredited college with an enrollment of over 3,000 students pursuing bach- elor's degrees in engineering and industrial administration. These students alternate classroom and laboratory ac- ademic studies with work experience periods at General Motors units across the United States and Canada. Stapleton , the president, opened the meeting with a short prayer followed by a hymn. The minutes were read and approved. It was moved to send $15.00 to Street Haven in Toronto. The date was set for the Salad Supper. An invitation was read from the Newcastle ladies to attend a Spring Thank Offering Service on Tuesday evening March 18th at 8 p.m. The program was in charge of Mrs. G. Cathcart who, with the aid of pictures and maps, told of the challenge of bringing the church to places in the far north in the North West Territory. Since the annual Presbyterial Meeting is April 2nd, our next U.C.W. meeting is to be held the following Monday April 7th, at the home of Mrs. G. Cathcart. Eight members of the Orono Hunt and Fish Club held a meeting on Monday evening at the home of Reg Elliott. The president Mr. J. Ard chaired the meeting. Following the meeting they viewed slides of Western Canada and Van- couver Island. Mr. Harvey Wiermier from Prince George, B.C. has been spending this past week with his sister and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Martin Manders. Mrs. Carl Langstaff has been visiting her mother Mrs. Couroux Sr. at Cache Bay this past week. Grades 7 and 8 pupils from Kendal area who are attend- ing the Pines Sr. Elementary Public School enjoyed a day of cross country skiing last Thursday at Mosport. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dyer and three children from near London, England also Mr. and Mrs. Allen Cochrane of Beth- any were dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Downes this past Wednesday. They enjoyed a sleigh ride with team and sleighs during the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Stevens visited Miss Catharine Stew- art on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. David Skerrett spent this past week at the home of her son in Oshawa with her grandchildren while their par- ents were away on a holiday. The Kendal Recreational Committee met on Wednesday evening at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Geo. Mercer. Arthur Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Stevens and Mrs. R. Elliott attended the World Day of Prayer service held in Newtonville on Friday after- noon. Mr. Harvey Aikens of Pontypool visited with Mr. and Mrs. Garland Cathcart last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Hellebust and family of Toronto, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Stevens. On Sunday morning the choir sang 'I am Thine O Lord' and the Rev. G. Montgomery's sermon was 'The Promise of the Spirit'. Next Sunday morning there will be the Reception of New Members also any transfering of mem- bership in our church.
