Memoriual ut Lindsay Saturday will- long be remembered by about 300 foiÊmer members of th e Mid- -Z' âd Regiment who gathered ai indsay for the 1975 reunion and unveiling of a memorial. The Midland vets began to gather from across Canada on Friday and continued to arrive ail day Saturday at the Royal Canadian Legion rilranch 67 headauarters where the reunion comtinittee, Laird Gamble, Gord Eberts, Elmer Lewis, Ralph Hodgson, Stubby McMurter. Bill Watson and Reub Bush had -prepared a worthwhile program. The main events of the day were, of course, the parade to the new memorial and the impreSsive service that had been prepared by Padre, the Rev. Donald Stuart. Partici- Sating in the parade were two ands, the Kinsmen brass band and the Kawartha Kavaliers, plus the 'Mad Midlands' who did their best to 'keep up their fine marching traditièn.- although most of them weren't quite as spry as they were 30 years ago The cenotaph service in- cluded a cali to worship, prayer of invocation, script-, ure, reading, a prayer of thanksgiving and a p rayer of confession, followed bv an address by William C. Scott M.P. Victoria-Haliburton, and the unveiling by Mrs. Audrey Williams, sister of R.B. Laitue of the Midlands who died in the Italian campaign as a member of the Seaforth Highlanders. Walter Grey, formerly of 'A' Company and a Hon g Kong veteran with the. Royal Rifles, read the naines from the Roll of Honor and C.H. McMurter sounded the Last Port and Réveille, followed by the laying of a wr eath in their mem-ory by Major Stan Gamney. Folliowing the ceremony, the parade marched bac kto Legion headquarters, with Lt.-Col!. J. G. Leuty taking the salute at the March Past. After an hour of renewing friendships, the veterans sat down to a delicious roast beef dinner served by the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 67. Later, a dance was held and the mnemorable.reunion broke up in. the wee hours. A souvenir booklet had been prepared by the committee SO that each member attending would have a record of the event to take home with him and treasure. The Midianders, about 300 strong, were led by, Major P.F. Bigelow, left and Lt.-Col. J.G. Leuty, last commander of the Regiment.
