6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, May 14, 1975 Section Kendal Dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Evans and family on Sunday following the Bap- tismal Service of their daugh- ter, Michelle were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thertell and Orville, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Knapp and two girls from Bowmanville; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Thertell and two sons and Mrs. Stella Evans from Blackstock. With Mrs. W.H. Foster on Sunday for dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Foster, Paul and Cheryl and during the afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Byers and family from Welcome; Mr. and Mrs. Robb Carruthers and family from Bowmanville; Mr. and Mrs. John Foak and family and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Foster froin Wesleyville. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bradley have sold their general store in Kendal to Mr. and Mrs. Jan. Bajorek, who will be taking 'possession the end of this month. On Wednes- day evening the members of the Three-in-One Couples Club met in the Sunday School room for a farewell social evening. After an hour of games, Mr. and Mrs. Bradley were asked to come forward. Mrs. L. Hoy read a very fitting address after which they were presented with a battery powered wall clock. Each in their own amicable way thanked every one for the gift and the pàrty. A short business session followed making plans for the next month. A delicious lunch was then served including a beautifully decorated cake. On Wednesday, five mem- bers of Kendal Wonien's Institute, Mrs. K. Dykeman, Mrs. J. Henderson, Mrs. T. Gosson, Miss Catharine Stew- art and Mrs. R. Elliott attended the District Annual convention of West Durham W.I. in Blackstock United Church. During the day, plans were made for a dinner to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Women's Institute, also the help in the Hospitality Tent at the International and World Ploughing match held September 23-27, 1975. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Garland Cathcart and Mr. Arthur Thompson were Mrs. Clair Traynor of Regina and her mother, Mrs. L. Burwash of Cobourg, also Mr. and Mrs. Michael Stinson, formerly of Vancouver, B.C. who have been living in Ottawa this past few months and have left by plane for West Germany. Kendal U.C.W. met at the home of Miss Catharine Stew- art on Thursday evening for the May meeting with nine members and two guests. Rev. and Mrs. Montgomery present. Mrs. J. Stapieton, the president, opened the meeting with a prayer, and singing the hymn 'W at a Friend We Have in Jesus'. Mrs. T. Stevens read the scripture and the roll call was answered by naming, 'Someone I have visited.' The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. There are anniver- sar plates, mugs and cups and saucers to be put on display and orders taken for anyone wishing to buy them to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the United Church. The program was in charge of the Citizenship, Social and Community Friendship Convenors, Mrs. W.H. Foster and Mrs. K. Wood. Mrs. Foster read an article entitled, 'It is More Blessed to Give than Receive' and Mrs. Montgomery also read an article, 'The Meanest Mother in the World' showing if the Mother insisted on truth, dependability of a child, even if it hurt at the time it produced a better erson or citizen later in life. The meeting was closed by singing the hymn, 'O Master Let me Walk with Thee' and prayer by Rev: Montgomery. A social half hour was enjoyed over lunch provided by Mrs. Staple- ton and Miss Stewart. The June meeting will be at the home of Mrs. J. Stapleton. This past week has seen several bus trips for the young folk. On Monday, May 5th, Grades 1-3 visited the Royal ontario Museum and on Wednesday Grades 4 and 5, with teacher, Mrs. Landry visited the Science Centre in Toronto. On Saturday, Kendal Brownies under the leadership of Mrs. Geo. MacDonald, Mrs. G. Langstaff and Miss G. Youngman attended the circus in Oshawa. At Church on Sunday morn- ing the Rev. G. Montgomery conducted the Mother's Day and Baptismal Services. There were four babies bap- tised, Dwayne Robert Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Walker; Cheryl Leane Foster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Foster; Jason Todd Mothersill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Mothersill; and Michelle Ann Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Evans. Mrs. John Fonk sang a solo 'M-o-t-h-e-r,' a word that means the World to Me', accompanied by Mrs. Keith Wood at the piano. Mr. Montgomery's Mothers' Day message was "The Beauty that is not Vain". Next Sunday the guest speaker is to be Mr. Ralph Bradley from Alcohol and Drug Concerns. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Mother- sill, who had around thirty guests at church for the Baptismal Service entertain- ed them in the Sunday School Room to lunch and a social time following the church service.
