John and Elaine Van- Wieringen of Kincardîne were weekend visitors ln the vil- lage. In spite of the busy holiday weekend, the bazaar, bake sale and fashion show Ôf the U.C.W., Explorers and C.G.I.T. was very *eIl attend- ed. Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Murphy attended a niece's wedding in Mlliken on Saturday. The bail season is under- way. On Sunday Cathmar Wel Drligof the Scugog League, cahdby Fred Rusk, hosted the Nestleton team with the score 11-9 la Pontypool's favour. On Monday at the Victoria Day celebration in Bethany, Pontypool Sr. men, COF Bowlers Top Team Honored with Trophy defeated Bethany 2-1 in an exhibition came. Mr. Lloyd Brown had the misfortune to have a cow die recently with the rabies. Lloyd and son Donald are taking daily rabies shots in Lindsay. The two local nurseries - Richardsons' and Fishers' are reportedly each doing a boom- ing business. Several, local people. are planning on attending the mammoth service, commem- orating the fiftieth anniver- sary of the United Church of Canada, to.be held in Peter- borough Memorial Centre on Sunday, May 25th. A bus wili be leaving Pontypool at 4:45 p.m. and will be stopping in Bethany to pick up passen- gers at 5:30. Ail wishing to go are advised to get their tickets beforehand fromn Rev. Ficho. Teenagers - be sure to have your dress ready for the Graffiti Dance - to b e held this Friday evening in the Coin- munity Hall. Chaperones will be Mr. and Mrs. Ron Sutch and Mr. and Mrs. George VanDam, Jr. Many local families took advantage of the gorgeous holiday weekend and went camping or visiting their cottages. If there are any ladies who are saving Canada Packers labels for our U.C.W., Mrs, Grace Fallis would like them handed in as soon as possible. Also - a reminder of clothing for the bale to be packed shortly for Scott Mission. 4-H POTATO CLUB by Glenn Wood The first meeting of the 4-H Potato Club was held at the Agricuitural office in Bow- manville on April 9th, with, 6 members present. Since 3 members of the club were flot able to attend,, election of officers was lef t for the -next meeting. The club talked about various topics which would be discussed throughout the year's meetings, and where the-meetings would be. A capacity crowd attended the Annual Sunday School anniversary in the United Church on Sunday morning. Superintendent of the Senior Sunday School Mr. Gordon Paisley conducted the service in his usual capable way. Primary Superintendent Ruby Parsons assisted in many ways. The regular organist Mrs. Linda Kyte was assisted by Janet Parsons on the piano. Th e choir loft was absolutely filled by the members of the priary Sunday Shool - right doIwn to the tree year olds, while the Junior and Inter- mediate pupils were seated at the front of the Church. During the service each sec-, tion of the Sunday School favoured with several num- bers. Rev. Charles Hainer of Brookiin was the guest speak- er and gave a sermon of interest to both the children and aduits alike, entitled, 'One Small Candie.'
