YELVERTON This is the weekend that was at Yelverton - especially Sunday. The U.C.W. Ladies under the capable direction of their President Mrs. Clarence Page had directed most of their energies these past weeks for the preparation for the Sunday Anniversary ser- vices and the Buffet Luncheon that followed. Their efforts were crowned with success. The Church proper overflowed with thecrowd - ail seats and additional chairs set up were filled and the overflow filled the anterooms at front and back of the Church. This was a tribute to our Guest speaker (a wise choice indeed) Mrs. Sue Bonistee! whose witty coinmunity anci nostalgic memories of Yelverton some 16 years ago provoked consid- erable mirth. The Rev. R.P. Bonisteel (hier hubby) was the first supervising mmnister of the combined charges of Janetville and Bethany at that time (1955-59). Her message provided much food for thought to be regurgetated for further consideration later. Special music in the way of two lovely solos by Mrs. John Hunter of Ottawa (formerly Janice Stacey) were much enjoyed as was the Robinson Male Quartet - Ray Robinson and his 3 sons - Clare, Quinton and Darryl with Mrs. Ralph Pfok presiding on the Electric Organ. Mr. Ted Powers con- ducted the service, and Mrs. Clarence Page, U.C.W. Pres. assisted -by Mrs. Murray Malcolm participated in the program. They presented 6 of the 8 Charter Members of the original Ladies organization who were present with a memento of their attendance - a silver spoon. These included - Mrs. Cecil Ferguson, of Newcastle, Miss Lillian Law- son of Lindsay, Mrs. Fred Bradbura (Violet Bradburn) of Norland, Mrs. Willa (Milne) Blundeil and her mother Mrs. Hilda (Milne) Tyler of Toronto, Mrs. Willard Hall, formerly Margaret MeCqm'is of Cavan. The other two members Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Poulter were unable to be present. Three other members although not quite Charter Members were honoured for their years of; service to Ladies Organiza- tion, Church and Community - our mater - Mrs. Rae Mal-, colm, Mrs. Gordon Robinson and Mrs. (Rev.) J.P. Hender- son of Bethany. Mr. Terry Malcolm and Mr. Marti Mal- colm were ushers on the auspicious occasion. Flowers were provided for the occasion by the members of the family and the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hughi McGill. For- mer residents of the commun- ity years ago were present from almost any centre from Toronto to Ottawa'- Oshawa, Lindsay, Port Perry, Orono, Newcastle, Peterborough, Havelock, Bowmanville, etc. The occasion was a worthy tribute to the Ladies organiza- tion who over the past fifty years have always been prime movers for progress and the backbone of our church. A special Bulletin was compiled outlining some of the main events and unusual items of interest as garnereù from the minute books of the past 50 years. A few are still available to interested par- ties. These minute books, old photographs, albums and other items of memorabilia were gathered and displayed for the perusal of all following a delicious cold meat and salad buffet dinner served in church hall. We express the gratitude of our community to all those through their interest and attendance made the ll3th anniversary of our church a day to be remember- ed. Although the effort was a co-operative community af- fair, special mention should go to AgnesandAlA1- we nemisis as he struck out 10 batters, got two of Pontypools 3 ruas - one a homer. Laverne Brown also had a homerun and made one uabelieveable fielding play. Congratulations to Coach, Fred Rusk and his Pontypool team on their well deserved win. Next Sunday starts an interesting 2 out of 3 final between Pontypool and '~sletn.First game at 'itypool; 2nd at Nestletoa on à IL following Suadav. May the best team win!
