8 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 1, 1975 M* aMMMMunç mMMMMd M FLASHBACK 25 YEARS AGO - Right-hander Ed Hooper came up with a ao-hit, no-run game at Trenton, on Thursday as Napanee edged R.C.A.F. No. 6 Repair Deport, 2-0 to sweep their O.B.A. Intermediate "B" play-off series, in two straight. games. FLASHBACK 10 YEARS AGO - Mary Ruth Osborne, placed first at Blackstock Fair, in the English Saddle class, riding Duke, a horse owned by David Brent. Carolyn Piper placed second with Blaine Flint's Rocky. Carrole Orme, on her own horse Pride, placed fourth in the yearling halter class. END SEASON - On Sunday, Sept. 21 The Lawn Bowlers wound UD a verv successful year with a club tournament. All the Greens were filled for two 10 end games and the high winner was Jerry Leddy and his partner John Coombes. After the bowling, the annual meeting was held with 30 members present and the officers for the '76 season are, Les Coombes Past Pres., Morgan Lunney Pres.; Harold Bennett, Vice, Clarence Oke, Secretary; Les Langs, Treasurer. The day wound up with a buffet dinner at the club house and things are already underway for a bigger and better season next year when we expect our membership of 47 will increase to 60 or 65. TURKEY SHOOT - The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters will be the big winner on October 5 when Metro Region Conservation holds its annual Oktoberfest turkey shoot at Cold Creek Conservation Area. Ail proceeds from the popular sports event will be donated to the Fed- eration. This year the Black Spruce Sportsmen's Association is host of the pre-thanksgiving Day turkey shoot, which runs from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (For the benefit of the uninitiated, no - the sportsmen don't shoot the turkeys. They shoot at targets and the birds are the prizes.) Charge for the event is $1.50 per relay, a slightly increased price over last year but the prize turkeys, in the 12 to 14 pound range, are larger than in previous years. A special 410 shotgun event for Juniors has been added to the program this year. Incident- allly, visitors to the area should bring their cameras along, too, since the fall colors should be at their peak at that time. Cold Creek Conserva- tion Area is located midway between Bolton and Nobleton, 2 miles north of the King Sideroad on Concession Road 11. SCHEDULES START SOON'- Hockey sche- dules for the several All Star teams will get underway shortly. At the moment, the coaches are working hard at practices, thinning out the ranks of the players and assigning them to positions where they feel they will be most effective. Bowmanville Junior Cs have already had two exhibition games against Lindsay with more coming up in the near uture prior to regular league play. There are quite a few new faces in the line-up and a new coach. The juniors didn't do too well against Lindsay Muskies but they put up a couple of good battles and certainly should be right in there when they get sorted out. NEED VOLUNTEERS - Coaches, assistants or anyone interested in assisting in any capacity with the Legion Track and Field Club is re- quested to phone Harvey Webster at 623-2612 by this weekend, so that plans can be set up for next year's program. DURHAM COLLEGE - will be holding the Ontario Coaching Development Program at a date to be announced. For information on the three levels of the course, phone Dave Skinner at Durham College. Level 1 - stresses the Theory of the program, Level 2, the Technical Level 3 - Practical Coaching Experience in the particular sport the individual is interested in. Jr. Champion, Steve Hogarth, the defending Champion, Rick James, was unable to compete, as the event was held while he was attending Ontario Athletic Leadership Camp, at Orillia; Jr. Girls champion, Carrie Pearson, a three time holder of the championship;Jr. Boys Net Winner, Dan Strike; Ladies Champion, winner Jean Pratt, runner-up, Marion Lane.
