The bylaw provides that as there is an amount of $20,000 in a reserve fund and as council desires to provide a new fire hall to serve the area of the Town of Newcastle which includes the former Village of Newcastle, the corporation enacts as' foliows. 1irstly, that the property, belonging to Carveth Motors Limited in the village be purchased at a cost of $125,000, and secondly that the building be modified at an estimated cost of $15,000 for use as a fire hall. 1Therefore, the total esti- mated cost of $140,000 less the $20,000 sum of the reserve fund for a balance of $120,000 is debentured over a period of 10 years. Modifications to the building under the approved bylaw are to be carried out under the supervision of the consulting firm of Totten, Sims and Hubieki who prepared the feasibility report of pur- chasing and converting the former Carveth Garage for fire hall use. The $140,000 total was esta- blished at a recent meeting of council's Finance Committee. The purchase price of $125,000 and the modifications of $9,000 totalled $134,000.
