4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, November 12. 1975 Animal Control Get New Truck Maybe Radios, -Although it is as yet undecided what will be done with the present one, council for the Town of Newcastle have- approvedi the purchase of a new 1975 truck for the Animal Control Department from McDonald Ford in the arnount of $4,581.15. The matter was first appro- ved ai the Oct. 20 meeting of the Communitv Services Com- mittec and came before coun- cil last week for their concur- ret ce. ý,s it was found that trade in allowance of $150 would be the maximum granted on the old truck, the committee recom- mended that it not be traded in ai this ime. " Animal Control officer Jim Hancock suggested to the committee that the truck be kept as a 'second vehicle, which on occasion would prove useful, since it would cost the town more to seli it than it is worth. Also before titis week's meeting of the committee on Monday afternoon was the malter of possibly equipping the animali control vehicles wilh a radio dispatch system. Mr.- Hancock advised the commiilee thal two portable type units which couid be used cithex- in 'the trucks or as a base Unit can be obtained in the neighborhood of $2500 which he suggesled be includ- ed in the 1976 budget. >Inquîry by Coun. Ken Lyall why the base unît of the works dep artment could nol be utilized by the animal control department brought explana- ion that the Works base is not rnanned ai ail times. -Coun. Lyal's concern relat- ed to his opinion t hat he prefers lu see the town mnaintain such vehicles on one r-adio system rather than having a few here and there operating on different repeat- ers.- The malter was referred to the Works Committee for a report by Coun. Lyall at the next Community Services f"ormnttee meeting. 1Ist Maple Grove Cub News The 1975-76 season is in fuît swing for the lst Maple Grove Cubs.
