8 The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanville. November 26. 1975 FLASHBACK-25 YEARS AGO - B.H.S. Junior Basketball team coached by Jack Ross, of the teaching staff, will play the Port Hope squad, in an exhibition game at B.H.S. Playing for Bowmanville will be Don Stutt, centre, Bob Gallagher, Ted Dadson, forward, Ron Moorcraft and Don Taylor, guards. FLASHBACK-10 YEARS AGO - In Re- creation Pee Wee hockey action on Saturday at the local arena, the Canadians, were defeated 6-5 by the Generals. Canadian team goals were by Rick Shackleton (2), Doug McKnight, David Passant, and Morris Meadows, 1 each. Assists went to Laurie Gay, Paul Martin and Morris Meadows. DON TAYLOR- bowling for the Salem team in the rural league posted the highest triple at Liberty Bowl this season with games of 378-269-283 for a big 930 triple. Dale Terry had been leading with a triple of 915. SPONSORS - of All Star Hockey teams in Bowmanville are as follows: Minor Bantam - H. L. Wood Transport, Major Bantam - H. W. Knapp Towing, Minor Midget - Constitution Insurance, Major Midgets - Bowmanville Cycle and Sports. B.H.S. COACHES - are holding practises at the local arena on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. for the school hockey team. Any student interested should come out to the practises. CURLING UNDERWAY - The several sections of the Bowmanville Curling Club got underway recently and hopefully, with some cold weather at hand, the ice should soon be in superb condition. Quite a few changes and mprovements have already taken place at the club since Jay Lilge was appointed full- time manager, and more are to come. There is still room for more curlers if you would like to try your hand at this interesting and exciting type of recreation, and the social aspect is also most important. Drop out to the club and see for yourselves. It's hard to believe but up to last week, Norm Allison, accompanied by his wife, was playing 18 holes of golf each day. We haven't heard if Bob Walton, who in the past has had that distinction, is still playing, but they both probably will be out again if the weather gets a bit warmer. ARTIFICIAL TURF - for Oshawa Civic Fields is out for the time being. $750,000 is a lot of money, and those in charge can't justify the expense as yet. HUB OF THE UNIVERSE - You have to hand it to that great if tiny community called Solina: They've come up with a history book with a hard eover that would do credit to a much larger centre. Not only that but on Friday night, almost the entire population got together with a two-fold objective. They honored two sets of newlyweds and then to complete the evening, presented individual trophies to each member of their senior soccer team who have won the Darlington champion- ship 10 years in a row. That's real community spirit that's hard to beat. GREAT GAME - With two of their players sidelined because of suspensions, the Port Darlington Marinas skated their hearts out on Sunday night in one of the fastest and cleanest games of t he season against a rugged and speedy Frankford team, to win 6-3. The entire team worked together to provide some great entertain- ment. An interesting pre-game presentation of gifts to goalie Randy Thiele and his bride-to-be Janie Marshall was a nice touch. AFter that, there was no way Randy was going to let those pucks get past him. The score might have been higher for the Marinas if the Frankford goalie hadn't been right on. He stopped several that were labelled for counters. CONGRATULATIONS - Knapp's Towing Major Bantams who bave bad considerable trouble with Markham over the years, finally broke through on Saturday night and came up with a tie in a well-played game. And it took a short-handed goal by Paul Reid to do the trick. Tbe basb on the snoot he took in Bay Ridges doesn't appear to bave slowed bim down any, he was flying on Saturday. The report that was sent in had him deking the rearguard out of some of bis essential equipment. We took the liberty of changing it to 'long johns', tbis being a family type newspaper. SWIMMING POOL - Don't forget the special meeting that has been called for Thursday, Dec. 4th, 8 p.m. in the council chambers to discuss the possibility of installing an indoor swimming pool at Bowmanville High School. All interested parties are asked to attend and bring their suggestions along with them. Broadloom Bantam No. 2 Special Presentation for Goalie and Bride-to-Be On Sunday night at Memorial Arena here, the Junior C game was held up for a few minutes while Executive President Bill Simpson, left, and Team Manager Don Harvey made a special presentation to goalie Randy Thiele and his bride-to-be, Janie Marshall. Afterwards, Randy was in great form as the Marinas downed Frankford 6-3. Don Sturrock is home from hospi- tal and resting at home. Jack Gibbs,¯Rory's father, a member of the Bowmanville Hockey Association aflter ma- jor surgery has returned to the Bowmanville Hospital, where he is receiving treatment and therapy. All the fans wish him a speeding recovery. Bowmanville meet Frank- ford Friday and play Lindsay next Sunday night starting at 7:30. Games On Monday, Nov. 24, Bow- manville Atom B's hosted Markham and edged the visitors 2-1. Billy McArthur played outstanding between the pipes as Markham out shot Bowmanville 27-18. Markham opened the scor- ing at 5:52 of the second period, but Bowmanville came back and Vie Romard scored on a goal mouth scramble assisted by Todd Beers. Bowmanville put on the pressure in the thirdperiod and at the 2:48 mark Scott Johnston slammed in a re- bound from a hard point shot by Jeff Logan. Again the I.G.A. Atom B's ave a real team effort to hold off the fast skating Markham team.
