You have to feel ver ysorry for those who have been hit by illnesses, dea ths or other tragedies at this time of year, but all too often the greatest sadnesses come during the Christmas festive season. DISSAPPOINTING - On Sunday, nearly 100 Senior citizens enjoyed the annual color tour sponsored by the Kinsmen Club and the lunch afterwards courtesy of the Kinettes. The Editor recorded the happy event on his camera as well as the Music Festival at Trinity United where Ross Metcalf was holding forth as the conductor. Later, in the darkroom, he found that the film was blank. Apparently, he hadn't loaded it properly. Sorry! APOLOGIES - More apologies are in order for the students at Maple Grove East and Lockhart's Public School who staged Christmas concerts on Thursday night when other commitments made it impossible to give them photo coverage. Next year, we'll try to compensate. We've received several phone calls about some local merchants being closed all day Monday, less than two weeks before Christmas. One lady drove in from a considerable distance to learn that the stores where she wanted to shop were closed. She said she headed right for Oshawa in disgust. Another complained that she tried to shop shortly after five o'clock on Saturday, but most of the stores in town were closed tight, although in the Chamber of Commerce advt. re ~ store hours said they would close at six. As some stores are closing Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Saturday this week, advertisements appear in this edition saying who will be open and who will be closed. The Statesman office ' 4 will be closed on Saturday, as usual. EARLY NEXT WEEK TOO - We hope you will receive this edition before Christmas. A shipment was due a week ago, but the latest advice is that it will be a couple of weeks late. , WHITE CHRISTMAS - Youngsters who are on holidays from school certainly should be happy with all that accumulation of white snow, especially if they don't have to shovel it. That was a cold weekend with this winter's first touch of below zero temperatures. From all reports this area was much luckier than Toronto where everything was bogged down, including many flights for those heading to distant spots for the holidays. No doubt we'll make up for it later. The skiers and snowmo- bilers certainly had a good time, although it was quite cold for them.
