In last week s report of the Lions News, at the Ladies Night the Lionettes donated $600 raised from the Fashion Show, to the Lions, for the Newcastle Liors Swimming Pool. A week ago the managerial staff of the J. A. Smith Co. enjoyed their annual Christ- mas dinner at the Forum Restaurant and a social even- ing at the Kean residence. On Friday, Dec. l9th the B department of J. A. Smith Co. enjoyed a social evening ard dinner atý the Flying Dutch- man. On Monday evening, Mr. and Mrs. George imbal vîsited friends in Ajax. The Newcastle Village Fýre- mien answered three fire calîs last week, Thursday morning, a car on King St. Newcastle, Thursday evening a vehicle at Newtonville and Saturday, Dec. 20 a shed at Newtonville. Mr. Lawrence Gaines, who bas been custodian of the Newcastle Public School for twenty-six years, retired last week.
