Bob Beers Minor Atoms Close Out S Beers Toros Drop Two to Whitby On Jan. 25th, Beers Toros lost 7-2 in the Brooklin Arena. This particular game was one in which the Toros were completely disorganized. The two Toro goals came from the sticks of Kelly Matthews, unassisted, and from Jay Sweet assisted by Robert Giedlinger. On Jan. 31st the Beers boys came up against Whitby again only to lose by a score of 6-1. Robert Giedlinger, Ray Cum- min s and Wayne Mutton made very goo plays and Scott Masters worked his heart out the entire game, but to no avail. Scoring the only goal was Robert Giedlinger rom Ray Cummings and Wayne Mutton. End Season with 500 Per Cent Average Beers Toros travelled to Ajax on Feb. lst to close out their league play with an excellent game although it was a loss of 2-0. Playng a strong first period were hard hitting Glenn Owens and a fine effort by Jay Sweet. The second period had Scott Masters playing a very aggressive and clean checking game. Greg Smith also played well during the second, throw- ing very good and solid checks. The third period of play had Ray Cummings and Chuck )eason Play Nash playing excellent hockey. Roundin out the fine defence for the áy was Scott Heard who has great anticipa- tion of play and Chris Michel- son with wonderful skating ability. Robert Giedlinger certainly has proved to be an asset to this team with his great deking power and his ability to slow down the playito the required speed. Wayne Mutton, especialiy since the Brantford tournament, has also been a big help to the team with fine aggressive play and hard work in the corners. Darrin Knight seems to have the knack of taking the puck away from the opposition even in full flight. Jeff Jacques hard corner checks had the Ajax team skating with their heads up and Kelly Matthews continued to win the face off time after time. We hope that Jon Rowe will soon return to play after his appendix operation. George Kennett played one of his best games during this Ajax con- test; it is worth the price of admission just to watch this guy perform between the pipes. Congratulations to both George and Jon for their fine goal tending this. year. The Toro Minor Atoms would like to thank Coach Llo d Heard, Mickey Burns an Paul Albrecht for all their time and effort this year. Hockin Pee Wees Tie with Whitby On Feb. 7th, the Hockin Real Estate PeeWee B Toros jour- neyed to Brooklin to play the, league leaders, Whitby. It was one of the best games played by the team. After a three- hour delay caused by a time mistake in the schedule, the team came out on the ice raring to go. The Toros scored first withSteve LaVigne connecting after just a minute and a haîf with a Whitby mannoff for tripping. Potter and Siggins got the assists. Whitby scored half-way through the first and scored the only goal of the second pei u thescore to 2-1. h ckîn squad came back in the third period with two goals in 34 seconds. Kevin Welsh tied it up assisted by Potter and Clemens. Then Dana Peebles picked a corner after recepving a pass from Steve Siggins putting the Toros in front with 1:10 seconds left to play. But then Whitby scored on a heart-breaking play with LaVigne iying hurt in the edge of the crease, a Witby player went around the bac k of tbe net, putting the puck into the empty side. Mark Matthews, wbo was hurt during the game is apparently all right and Scott ,Patterson, who was called up from Recreation played a steady game. MarinasDefeat Stouffville in Last Game of Schedule Gary Cqx, 9, had just scored the tying goal when this picture was taken in the third period on Sunday night, leaving the Stouffville goalie and defencemen quite unhappy. The Junior C Marinas went on to add two more before the end of the period while Don Sturrock in the Bowmanville net held the Clippers scoreless w1th some great saves. Rory Gibbs is the player at right with his stick held high. Scott Bates and deff Vyeschaft earned this shut out, playing there usual steady game in goal with there defencemen giving them lots of protection and the forwards hustlin gboth ways. Good team e ffort earned this shut out. Tim Little and Tim Preston scored for Bowman- ville. Both goals were un- assited. Bowmanville vs Leamington Saturday, January 31 Leamington gave Bowman- ville a good hustle in this game. Our men had to work hard to gain the tie. Leaming- ton went ahead at the eight- twent -five mark of the first ,eriod and one minute later od Tremblay ied it up from Shawn Houston and Paul Stocker. Leamington jumped ahead again at seven-twelve of thedsecond period and 25 seconds later, Tim Preston from Tim Little gave the Toro's the fie. Bowmanville vs Cobourg February1 After playing their good strong games our guys came out against Cobourg and seemed too come up real flat. They were beat 3 to 1 with the last goal entering an empty net. It was not one of the Toro's better games but they were in the play right up until the final whistle. We some- times expect our kids too come up with the big game everytime out. This just isn't the way it happens. Preston The Movers had themselves another good tournament and win or lose, they are always a good representative of the town of Bowmanville.
