GO0RDIE HOWIE -oe the tie-breakingîü goal, Saturday evening in Toronto with the Houstoni Aeros against the Toros and it was his first overtime winning goal in his 30 year career. WINNER - of the Polar Bear Swim, staged by Durham College Winter Carnival, held on Monday, February 23rd in thefrigid waters of Lake Ontario, was Brian Maclntyre. Brian's stay of 68 minutes (15 in, 15,out) won him a beaver fur coat. Second place, was 'won by Bob Villeneuve who won 133 ounces of liquor. The water was one degree celsius. LACROSSE- the' training camp for the Oshawa Green-Gaels, opened Wednesday, February 25th at Central Collegiate. Anyone interested in trying out for the 2 team is wel- come. Jody Ross and Steve Frank combined to set up Cowle at 9:21 of the second for bis first. Ten seconds later Ross assisted on Cowles second marker. Dean Holmes put Knapps up by two early in the third as Wayde Preston and Bill Wright drew assists. Whitby cut the lean back to one at the halfway mark only to have Preston score the eventual winner on a neat passing play from Greg Brunt at 9:39. Whitby scored again to make it 4-3. Mike Paterson played in goal for the Toros and turned in an excellent game. Knapps are in action tonight at 9:154 at the Darlington Sports Centre with Stouffville provîding the opposition. The third period had Greg Smith scoring a well-earned goal with an assist going to hard-hitting Glen Owens. Co- bourg also scored during this period on a screened shot to end the game. Jon Rowe and George Kennedy played well in goal during this game. The Beer boys travelled to Cobourg on Feb. 24th to end this series with a 7-1 win. Jay, Sweet opened the scoring with an assist going to Chris Michelson. In the second period, Ray Cummings scored from Robert Geidlinger. Co- bourg, then scored to close the gap only to have Wayne Mutton score with assists to Robert Geidlinger and Glen Owens; ending the second period with a score of 3-1. During the third period, Ray Cummings lowered the boom with two goals both on assists fromn Wayne Mutton and one more from Glen Owens and Robert Geidlinger. Chuck Nash also scored a well-êarn-, ed goal from Jeff Jacques. Robert Geidlinger and Wayne Mutton both deserve special mention for their excellent teamn effort,, instituting many good passes. Hampton Gardens Win 17to 4 Un Friday, Feb. 20, Bow- manville tr.avelled tQ Oshawa to play the Bramley Leafs of the Oshawa L.N.H.L'. On this occasion. Bowmanville emerged with a 7-4 victory. Barry Cullen opened the scoring in the first period with 2 quick goals. Billy Hogarth had 2 assists and Chris Dyck one. Shortly after the Leafs replied with their first mark- er, Steve Cary scored with assists going to Mike Stocker and Brian Ruddy..' in the second period, goals by Rod Plain, Barry Cullen with bis third, Steve Cary and Rick Erwin made it 7-1 Bowmanville. -The Leafs completed the scoring in the third period with 3 goals to end the game 7-4. On Saturday, Feb. 21, Bow- manville played host to Whit- by who are still in the "IAA"I Playdowns. Barry Cullen opened the scoring for Bowmanville from Brian Ruddy and Chris Dyck. Whitby tied it up scoring the only goal of the second period. At the start of the third period, Darcy Cummings scored a nice goal from Mike Stocker and Steve Cary. Less than a minute later Whitby again tied the score 2-2. Goals by Joe Nihill from Darcy Cummings and Barry Cullen froffi Chris Dyck and Rod Plain made it 4-2. Whitby again tied the game with 2 markers in the last three minutes of play to complete the scoring at 4-4. Knapp's caught fire in the third and pumped in four unanswered goals to salvage a 5-3 victory. Paul Reid, Wayde Preston, Paul Bedard, Ken Cowle and Scott Sellers pro- vided the scoring with Dean Holmes drawing two assists. Jim Hogarth, Sellers, Bedard, Preston, Steven Frank, Jody Ross and Cowle each assisted onice. In the return engagement Friday in Stouffville Knapp's turned in a much better performance in downing the home team 4-2 in a well played game.
