Reserve Unit recruits receive $16.50 for a full day's training, or for two nights training during the week. The unit places a strong emphasis on physical fitness, discîplining the mind and individual motivation, Colonel Hall said. "Today's militiaýman, ai- though she or he is part-time soldier, bas to be as good as a regular force member," he said. "Our job is to augment and reinforce regular force units. We expect a lot and in return for the best individual per- formance a person can put out, we can provide a reward- ing, challenging and well paid hobby. " Recruits are trained at the Oshawa headquarters of- the Regiment, at Forces' Bases at Borden, Petawawa, a base netar Ottawa or in Meaford. "We hope to attract resi- dents of. Durham Region who have had regular forces experiences as well as new- comers without any mîlitary' ,kills," the Colonel said., driving, gunnery and com-, munications. "In most instances we can offer these people rank and status where they left off, and in some instances one rank higher than that." The heavy discipline of the training program will apply to both maie and female recruits, Colonel Hall said. For the full sprîng and summer program, the Ontario Regiment will send recruits across Canada for their train- ing and bas 'already posted some members in Germany, Cyprus and Egypt. The regiment also plans to send some of their members to the Middle East with the United National Peacekeeping forces on a rotating basis. Eight people will go to Britain to train with the, British army in the middle of June for two weeks, They will be training in the 3rd Batal- lion's -Royal Regiment- of Wales. Those who will not travel overseas may be on duty representing the regiment of the Olympic Games in Mont- real for the summer, training can, see a lot of Canada and the world," Colonel Hall said. The regîment is also taking applications now for their Student Training program which begins on July lst and ends eight weeks later. The prog ram whîch Colonel Hall said was a highlight of their year of training has not yet met its quota but soom wili because of its popularity, hie added. The cour se is open to'men and women between the ages of 17 and 35. It will finish up with the annual field training concentration exercise from August 14 - 2L. This year it will be held in either Meaford, Ontario, a camp on the shores of Geor- gian Bay or at Camp Gray- ling, Michigan where they would train with units from the Ohio National Guard which took partin the 1970 incident at Kent State Univer- sity in which four students were killed.
