Principal John Veldhuis had a "Welcome" sign in the school entrance and the pupils had carried and arranged tables, and chairs for the educational study period. Miss Heather Barnett, Clothing Specialist of the Economics Branch, Parlia- ment Buildings, spoke on Fabrics - labelling,, and the many symbols that will ap- pear on materials and ready- made clothes. Proper care and washing of the many kinds of new materials on the market.were also discussed. <The ladies' brought their box lunches and tea or coffee were supplied, and good fellowship was enjoyed among the ladies from Newtonville, Newcastle,- Kendal and Bow- manville. President Amelia Lancaster- introduced the speaker and .Secretary-Trea- surer Madeline Buckley ex- pressed the appreciation of all to Miss H. Barnett., Your correspondent wants to express her appreciation to Dora DeSmit for calling Up on the phone Wednesday a.m. and singing "Happy Birth- day,". Our congratulations to Bob Henderson who held the lucky ticket in a recent draw in Oshawa, winning a 19" Color T. V.set. Changes are being made in our little town, as well as in the larger places. We under- stand that somne alterations and improvements are being miade to the house formerly occupied by the late Mrs. Lena Ovens, prior to Mr. 'and Mrs. Les Peck moving there. Mr. and Mrs. E. Gren McOuat and sons will be moving into the former Peck residence, and ta king over the General- Store business there. Last Friday afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. F. Gilmer visited Mr. Percy Rowe of Janetville in Oshawa General Hospital, w,ýhere he had ýundergone- surgery early in the week. MVrs. Irene Burley of Oshawa was a weekend guest with Mr. and Mrs. L. Clysdale. Mr. and Mrs. Syd. Arnold wvere among those attending the Hockey Banquet in New- castle Community Hall Satur- day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stapleton and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stapleton attended the dance at the Centennial Hall, Bow- manville, on Saturday, even- ing, following the Hale-Grant wý,edding which was solem- nized in St. Paul's United Church, Bowmanville, on Sat- urday afternoon. Mr. and _Mrs. S.J. Lancaster spent the weekend in the north country and visîted Mr. Charlie Beighton ini Huntsville Hospital, where he was enjoy- ing his supper. Mrs. Bea Jones was a w,,eekend visitor with relatives ln Warkworth. The Brown- Merrill ýwedding was held in Warkworth Presbyterian Church Friday evening, fol- lowed by a da'nce. Mrs. Jouies attended church in Hastings on Sunday morn- ing, calling on friends in Cobourg and Port Hope, en route home. Greeters at our church door Sunday morning were Melville Jones and Barbara Elliott. The themne of Rev. Montgom- ery's message 'was "God's Faith In Man", and Junior choir member Kenneth Gil- mer sang an enjoyable solo, "Why me, Lord?" ,, SQnday visitors with Mrs. Agnes Burley included Mr. and Mrs. Earl McEwen, Peterborough and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Burley, Newcastle. Amnong the many attending the "Beef *Barbecue" at the vidied an enjoyable musical program in Port Hope United Church, Sunday evening. Some of our local 'people among those attending the concert were Mr. and Mrs. Don Stapleton, Mrs. Leone Lane and Mrs. Marlene Stacey and family. Newtonville U.C.W. met in the Sunday School hall on Wed. evening, April 28, and President Inez Boughen open- ed with the singing of two verses of the hymn "Happy The Home," followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison.
