10 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvi YELVERTON A number of maie friends, neighbours and associates gathered on Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Russo to honour Mr. Clare Robinson prior to his forthcoming marriage, with a social evening. A niee lump of lettuce was realized and presented to Clare to heip him on his married way. Guests from a distance inciuded John Hofstetter and famiiy (maie members only). of Plattsviile near Kitchener - future in-iaws of Ciare's. Quite a pleasant evening. .On Sat. a reai community venture was induiged in the impovement of the local bal park which makes a tremen- dous change in its appearance anld for the better. The infield was in reai bad shape; Mr. Frank Glasbergen got the bal a rollinig for local improve- ment. With the grateful co- operation of Manvers Town- ship Council, its Road Supt., Maurice Bradley and its efficient grader operator, Donmie Lane, the infieid was skinned of old sod. On Sat. the wholecommunity turnied out to level, pack and water the fi trucked in for-the purpose. It is dangerous to pick out any one for special mention but we believe Mr. Ray McCuliough and Trevor Nesbitt, who provided the transportation of fi and water deserve special thanks. Also, Floyd Stinson and Vaughn MeGili who provided tractors and equip- ment. Not to detract from those others who, worked their butts off under the hot sun at more menial jobs. The end resuits are excellent and we are justifiably proud of the community spirit demon- strated on this occasion.. The spirit carried over tili Sunday p.m. when the local men blanked the new addition to the league - a team from Oshawa area by a score of 11-0. Dale Stinson was the winning pitcher with 9 strike outs and Donnie Timms scored the only home run of the game. IJ.C.W.
