12 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, June 9, 1976 Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary GM's Sales for May Ahead of Last Year General Motors of Canada's dealers delivered 56,276 pas- senger cars and trucks in May and established a new daily sales rate for any May -- traditionally a peak sales month. The sales rate exceed- ed last year's vehicle sales rate for the same month, by 17.1 per cent, J.D. Duffy, Vice President and General Sales Manager, announced today. GM passenger car deli- veries of 41,948 were 4,844 units above last year's 37,104 units. Truck deliveries of 14,328 units set a new record for the month of May surpassing last year's record 12,897, by 15.5 per cent. This represented the fourth consecutive record breaking month for GM trucks, Mr. Duffy stated, providing factu- al evidence of the solid base of the automotive market. "Both the car and truck markets are running at very strong levels," Mr. Duffy said. "Current model year sales are running 11.8 per cent ahead of the 1974 record year for cars and 26.9 per cent above the 1974 model year record for trucks. We fully expect to continue this kind of perfor- mance in the summer months ahead. " Truck deliveries of 14,328 units set a new record for the month of May surpassing last year's record 12,897, by 15.5 per cent.
