12 The Canadian Statesman, B( Rock Concert Thurs., JuIy i In Cobourg Tickets are going on sale for a rock concert to be held in the Cobourg arena on July lst. According to B. I, C. product- ions, the concert promoters, as many as 1800 could attend the concert. The production company has signed contracts with three rock groups. They are Lick'N Stick, Foot in Cold Water and Michael Lewis. B.I.C. spokesman, Brian Chase said the concert will be basically the saine as the one last year but there will be a beer garden planned for the upstairs of the arena. The Salem brancn ot St. Paul's U.C.W. met. in the church on Tuesday, dune the 8th at 8 p. m. The meeting was in charge of the~ fourth group. Mrs. Evelyn Buttery o pened the devotional with a poem, after which hymn No. 262 was sung. Mrs. Margaret Coombes read the scripture passage from lst Corinthians, chapter 13. Mrs. Buttery gave the meditation and hymn No. 272 was sung, followed by prayer. The program was taken from "Combo" and was a series of readings telling how our Christian faith can be carried out in. a number of Aifferent life situations, lst by a farmn family, 21id, a doctor in a clinic and 3rd, aconstruction worker. Each of whom was concerned about the dishonest practises being carried out in the daily life of this country. Readings were also gîven about a hospital chaplain and a class of secondary school students in their Christian efforts. Mrs. Ruby Shackleton took charge of the business and three June catering jobs were discussed after whîch a delicious lunch was served and a social hour enjoyed. Number present - 12. The Sunday School held their summer closing exer- cises on dune the 13th, Mr. W. Craig chaired the service. The chîldren took part by reading the scripture lessons, and in the singing of three choruses. Presentations were made to the boy and girl, with the highest attendance. Kerri Kil- mer, and Jonathon Reynolds respectively. We were very pleased to have the Rev. Schamerhorn with us for part of the service, who led in prayer and told a very ineetng story. Each teacl- er presented their pupils with a smiall gift fromn the sunday school, and after the closing hymn and benediction lunch was enjoyed. OBITUARIES GEORGE EDWARD RICHARDS A life-long, well respected and popular resident of Bow- manville his entire life, George Edward Richards aged 68 passed away following a three weeks illness, on Friday, June 4th, 1976 in Oshawa General Hospital. Born in Bowmanville, hie was the sont of the late Alfred and Maud Richards. Educated in Salem and Bowmanville, hie was married September 24th, 1934- to Elsie M. Yeo. Retired for three years he had been employed as a butcher for 50 years, by Dudley, Wes Cawker, Pat Yeo's and the I.G.A. at various times., Serving five years with the Midland Ftegiment, hie was a member of the Royal Canad- ian Legion, Branch 178, and a memnber of Trinity United Church.
