10 The Canadi n Statesman. Bownanville, June_29, 1976 ON EWTON VILLE Mr. and Mrs. L. DeSmnit and Paul attended the 35th Wed- ding Anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. J. Acki in Hamilton, Iast weekend, with about 50 other guests. A week ago Sunday night, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Jones with Mrs. Bea Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Melville Jones had dinner in Oshawa, then visited Mr. and Mrs. Denzil Dale and family. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ton spent part'of last week at their cottage at Buckhorn Lake where Mr. and Mrs. Tony Ton and family of Newcastle visited them, on Sunday.' Word was received here last week of the sudden death, in Toronto, of Mrs. Florence Robli, formerly of Montreal. A private funeral was held followed by cremation. Mrs. Robb wasthe third daugliter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Rowe of Newtonvîlle and she and lier late husband, Clifton, owned the house across from the United Church, now occu- pied by the Gardners and usually spent part of each summer there. Surviving fana-, ily members are Mrs. Mabelle Leucliner of Niagara Falls, Mr. Perry Rowe, Janetville; Mrs. Alice Rowe-Sleeman, Toronto and Mrs. Violet Gil- mer, Newtonville. The family of Mrs. Gertie Rowe surprised lier on lier birthday, last Monday, by having a "Painting Bee", supplying material and paint- ing the trim of lier house and the garage. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Paeden were Mr. and Mrs. George Irons of Brampton and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ross, Whitby. Along with their house guests, Mrs. B. McKenzie and Mrs. Janet Rennie, ail toured the Hali- burton area on Wednesday and Thursday and stayed overniglit with Mrs. Mary Packard of Haliburton. On Saturday, Mrs. McKenzie and Mrs. Rennie returned home to Seotland by Calendonia Air Lines fromn Malton. Last Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Ken Fletcher visîted their son, Keith, and lis wife i Toronto, juSt returned fromn an enjoyable visit to Scotland. They gave the Fletchers a wonderfully detailed descrip- tion of their trips through that country and their visits with relatives, also bringing back to them, many lovely Scottish souvenirs. Recent visitors wîth Mrs. Agnes Burley included Mrs. E. McEwen, Petérborougli; Mrs. Harvey Burley, and Tracy of Bridgenorth, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Burley, Rodney and Wendy, Ennismore and Mrs. Lillian Tamblyna of Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. F. Gilmer were Wednesday afternoon callers with Mr. and Mrs. Aif. Graham, Newcastle. Local ladies attending the Women's Institute Strawberry Tea at Hamnpton, Thursday afternoon, included Mes-, dames Olive Henderson, Madeline Buckley,, Bernice Henderson, Amelia Lan- caster, Amy Milligan, Iva Farrow, Florence Ferguson and Miss B. Milligan. On Thursday afternoon the closing exercises were held at Newtonville School with Prin- cipal John Veldhuis presiding. There was quite a line-up of al the academic and athletic winners of the past year, in which ail the teachers took a part, presenting the certif j- cates and awards to the pupils in their various grades. Thie Annual Hancock Awards, sponsored by our Newtonville Women's Insti- tute were presented to Shelly Tompkins by Mrs. V. Gilmer and to Bob Stiles by Mrs. M. Cenotaph, trimming weeds, filling in the lieds with flowers, etc. and a thank you, also, to Mrs. Mclnnis who kindly donated a couple boxes of flowers. Mr. Ton also installed the new flags donated by the Bowmanville Legion. It is hoped that ýail our residents, young and old, will remnember and respect these symbols, for what they represent, the brave men who gave their lives for us. Lest We Forget! Mrs. Dora DeSmit was a guest at the Logger--Atkinsoni wedding in the Anglican, Churcli, Simcoe, Saturday afternoon, with reception and dinner later in the Legion Hall.
