Prout Family Annuol'Pîcnîc HeId at Haydon The annual, Prout f amily pienie was lield June 20 on the lawn at Haydon Community Centre with 70 present. Af ter the relatives had greeted eâch other and new relatives were welcomed, an appetizing supper was enjoy- ed by ail with Mrs. Dora Norton, of Markham saying the Grace. The business was conducted by the President- Bonnie %3llock of Cavan. The iïnutes and treasurer's re- port of last year's pienie were read and approved.' The President of the Bakery i'ouncil of Canada, daughter f Cecil M.Norrison and first womai speaker at, a College graduation, mnade numerous references to her parents' commitment of service which has continued in this remark- able faily. Curtis, Principal of 'le College, presented the _?'lomas to the graduates. _jpecial recognition was gîven to Nelly Van Berlo, food and fashion student from Met- calfe, graduating highest in general proficiency and stu- dent activities, and to Ken McCormiack fromn Picton. Both students won special awards at theawards lunch- n before graduation. In the valedictory address- es, a new feature of the graduation, Darlene Hynds-of Ottawa remninisced in a hum- ourous wýay about incidents and the close frîendships establishied at a residential college. Grant Hepburn of Alfred countered Mrs. Hale's challenge to service by saying that the farming community bas been serving for too long at a low wage and a lower standard of living than others in the -comnmunity. He chai- lenged the graduates to correct the injustices of being penaiized for increasing pro- duction whie other segments of society are encouraged to increase production.
