A delicious B.B.Q. roast beef dinner with all the trimmings climaxed the after- noon festivities cooked and served by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sutherland and family. Also on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Mal«olm attended a reunion of a group who were ,on vacation in Hawaii a year ago. The reunion was held at the home of one of the group north of Toronto. A number from the com- munity attended the Ponty- pool Street Pair this weekend. On Sunday, Yelverton Men met Scugog Men and emerged the winners in the lOth inning after a 1-1 tie in the nintb. Dale Stinson pitcbed a near perfect game for Yelverton and chalk- ed up an enviable 20 batter strike out; struck out every member of Scugogteam but one at least once. The only run scored by Scugog was a home run by first baseman John Connors. George McCullough started the rally in the tenth inning and Trevor Nesbitt also scored and a R.B.I. by Terry Shea. Marti Malcolm also scored on a bit by Clare "Tlh e Home ôf Old, Fashioned Legion Ban toms 1Win a Pair By Don Fraser On Thursday night at Soper Creek- Park, the Legionaires behind the great pitching of Dean Holmes came away with a 2 - O win against Port Hope. Only three Port Hope batters got on base as Dean gave up a walk in the first inning, a single to Sutton in the fifth,, and the lead-off batter in the ninth reached base on a dropped third strike. Holmes had 14 strike-outs to his credit. Albert Vanider- gaast was behind the plate for the first time this year and caught a real good game. Bowmanville scored one run Robinson. A real pitchers' duel with Yelverton fortunate to win. Also on Sunday Janetville Srs. beat out Nestieton 5-3 after trailing Nestieton 3-1 in earlier innings. Robt. Burns put the game in the bag witb a 3 bagger bringing in two base runners in the 'final inning. This should be a real boost for Janetville morale after losing out in many very close contests in the past.- Bryce Jimmos' many friends and relatives were happy to see Bryce this weekend having flown home from Edmonton for a few days holiday. In the fifth Storgaard singled, stole second and third and came in on Hogarth's sacrifice. Noord- stra witb a double and single, Holmes with two singles. Storgaard and Ross with singles, were the Bowmanville bitters. Defeat Ajax 10 -4 On Monday, Ajax were the, visitors and they were handed a 10 -4 set-back. Bowmanville picked Up three runs in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. Greg Brunt started on the mound for the Legionaires and gave up two hits but he just didn't have bis control in this game as he issued six walks. Ajax picked up two runs in the second and one each in the third and fourth. John Storgaard led the 10-bit Bowmanville attack with a double and two singles, Cowle with a double and single, 4runt a double and single, Vaindergaaàt two singles, and Noordstra a single completed the bitting for the Legionaires. Todd Hlooper was brougbt up from tbe Pee-Wee's for these two games and did a good job in ïigbt field. They play in Whitby on Monday, Osbawa on Tuesday then finish up their scbedule at Soper Creek against Ajax on Tbursday.
