16 The Canadian Statesman, Downanville, August 25, 1976, LETTER TO) EDITORý 66 Hobbs Drive, Bowmanville, Ont. Aug. 20, 1976 Dear Sr: 1 arn very ups et with the look of the Saper Creek are behind my home. The Bowmanville Jaycees were given a grant fromn the Ontario Government ta fix up the area. The men under the direction, of Jim Robinsoi worked long and hard, espe cially during the very cald months and had the, area looking beautiful. People had the use of picnic tables -and it was a very pleasant walk aoithe side of the creek once. The area now lookssa disgusting as there are six foot high weeds ail over. Whata kick in the face ta the menwho worked s0 hard on this project. They must be asking tbemselves "why did lw both'er." Bowm anville doesn't have many places of beauty ta take a walk. The Saper Creek area was one for a couple of months. Frorn information I re- ceived-the area was going to be levelled off and kept cut. Apparently there is a bit of red tape in this matteFr. 1,Or own town's equipment can't be used. Tbey have ta get it fron Cobourg. Also the machine used for this levelling can't be used until the weeds are cut down. A month ago I phoned the Department of Works ta find out if and when they would be cutting the weedsdown. The gentleman said "They were just getting things ready to start soon." At the rate they are going it will bé too late -for people ta enjoy the area again. When the men finished their pro ject of the Saper Creel area, pictures appeared in the Statesman. Your photograpb- er should corne down and take another picture. Sincerely, N. Johnston Museum Introduci.ng, Authors Local residents will soon have the chance ta rneet the authors of the new book on Clarke Township and, the Village of Orono's history, "Out of the Mists-."
