Ten area Masons and their wives left this week for Regina, to attend the annual meeting of the Supreme Coun- cil of Scottish Rite Masons. The group, including their ladies, includes Stew Alger, Jim Souch, Harry Gay, Tom Wilsin, Jim Jackson, Lorne McCoy, Bill Manning, Bill Carnegie, Dr. Matt Dymond and Cyril Morley. Weekly practices for the General Motors chorus will resume Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the GM Auditorium. Bark, a former Peterborough lawyer appointed to the bench in August, has been named assistant judge for the area from Cobourg to Oshawa. The 3rd Annual Buffalo to Niagara Skylon International Marathon Saturday, 16 Oct- ober, 1976, at 12:30 p.m. will begin in Delaware Park, Buffalo, New York and finish in the mist of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Over 1400 entrants are anticipated from the U.S.A. and Canada, men and women il to 78 years old will run the 26 mile 385 yard event. The scenic course begins in Buffalo, New York, over the Peace Bridge into Canada, along the picturesque Niagara River Parkway, winding through the Niagara Parks Commission until its finish at the brink of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Last year's winner, Martin Sudzina, of Duquesne, Penna., won in a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 16 seconds. Registered entrants will check in at the Casino in Delaware Park, Buffalo* N.Y. from 9:30 a.m., until Noon. A buffet banquet is scheduled at the Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls, Ontario at 4:30 p.m. for all entrants and guests. The awards ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Skylon Tower. NEWTONVILLE Thursday evening, the in- duction service for Rev. David Burns the new minister for the Ebenezer Charge, was held at Maple Grove Church. Local people attending included Rev. and Mrs. Aubrey Tizzard Mrs. Mary Jones, and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Lancaster. Mr. and Mrs. Don Vinkle with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rowe daughter Tiffany, and her friend, Sheri McInnes came home, Saturday after a holi- day in the Haliburton area. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Burley of Waterloo were Saturday evening visitors with Mrs. Agnes Burley. Keith was one of those who competed in the recent International Sail Boat Race of several hundred miles, coming in 3rd in bis division. Mr. Don Fletcher spent the weekend here witb Mr. and Mrs. Ken Fletcher and Mr. Jim Adams was a Saturday supper guest. Rodney Cable of Edmonton joined bis friend Doug Jones at the home of Mrs. Bea Jones and Let The Sunshine In", was sung by Kim Gilmer, and Charlene Zeatsma, while the choir's anthem was "How Great Thou Art" with the congregation joining in on the chorus. The induction service for Rev. Tizzard will be held at Kendal, Wed., Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m. Glad to report Mr. Raymond Bruce is able to be home, once more, from Memorial Hospit- al, his daughter, Mrs. Isabel Waters is with him. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jarvis of Picton, visited her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Jones at the home of Mrs. Bea Jones, Sunday. Gary Stapleton of Hamilton, was home over the holiday weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Stapleton, also Mrs. Gordon Morton, and Kevin spent a couple days there. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Burley of Newcastle were Sunday after- noon visitors with Mrs. Agnes Burley and in the evening her visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Harold Burley, Doug and friend Ricky Cavanaugh of Bridgenorth. Doug brought his projector and showed pictures of their holiday boat trip through the various locks to Kingston, and up through the Rideau Canal, as well as pictures of various family members, in all, over an hour's showing with good descriptions. Messrs Jim LaRocque and Gordon McBride spent the holiday weekend at their cottage at Catchacoma Lake. Glen Martell is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Willsher, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Marcel- lus, and daughter, Pam, spent the holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Duane Chrysler, and family. Muhlhauser from Karlsruhe, Germany. Among the many places visited while here were Niagara Falls, Ontario Place and the C.N. Tower, the Thousand Islands, North Bay and Algonquin Park. Sympathy is extended to the family of the late Hector Beggs of Millbrook and for- merly of R.R. 2, Pontypool. Mr. Beggs was taken to hospital on Tuesday and passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4th with funeral service on Monday from the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville to Pontypool Cemetery. Alex and Mark Joncas returned home on Friday following a visit with relatives in Northern New Brunswick. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mucha's home in West Pontypool is presently taking on a new look. Gordon Kirk is under- going treatment in Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, this week. Gordon has just recovered from a bout of pneumonia. Jessie and Gerald Fisk, accompanied by Peggy and Dean Fisk of Ottawa, motored to Thunder Bay on the weekend. Peggy and Dean are enrolled at the University for the coming year. Randy Bradley, Randy Le- thangue, Ron VanWieringen and Alan Fallis spent the weekend in Three Rivers, Quebec, where they were spectators at the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres and the final race of the 1976 Trans-Am Series. Pontypool Parsonage is now vacant. The last tenants - Mildred Smith and Marshall Reynolds - have moved in with James Robbins of the 5th line. Three local maidens have chosen Sat. Oct. 9th as their wedding day. They are Arlene, Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brown, June, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Masters, and Sandra, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Fallis. A new home is being built on the 4th line - the owner, Brian Tuthill, of Whitby. Keith and Dorothy Dewar have returned home from a month spent at their trailer at the Awanago Trailer Park on Stony Lake. They have been having heaps of enjoyment Gilmer were supper guests Sunday, with them. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Clysdale attended the funeral of the late Mr. Wm. Mason, at the Weaver Funeral Home, in Trenton, last Thursday. Mr. Mason lived here, in this village before moving down east, and his death occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 31. Miss Carol Henderson has returned to Kingston, to finish her course at St. Lawrence College, where she expects to graduate in April. Our congratulations to Mr. Stan Bowen, of Bowmanville celebrating his 93rd birthday Monday. We expect he is attending the ball game in Kendal something he always enjoys watching! Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Halfyard, Michelle, Beverley and Wendy of Iroquois Falls spent the holiday weekend with Chris and Bernard Neals. Marie and Laverne Finney, Gail and Ray Cameron cha- peroned at a dance for 16, yr. and under in the Pontypool Community Centre on Satur- day night. Proceeds were for the Junior Girls' Ball team. Get-well wishes are extend- ed to Mrs. Florence MeMullen who is a patient in Civie Hospital, Peterborough, - also to Gordon Strong who bas not been feeling the best for the past few months. Mrs. Everett Mitchell spent Sunday with Mr. Mitchell and the Keith McDonald's. Mr. and Mrs. James Loates and family sold their home at Ballyduff and have moved to Toronto. The new residents are the Staceys who moved from Orono. A 2:30 p.m. service will be held in Ballyduff Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Sept. 12th with Rev. Locke of Lindsay conducting the service. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Mc- Mahon and three children formerly of Toronto have recently moved into Pinewood Estates. Wayne is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Mc- Mahon, former residents of Pontypool. Many other new families have moved into Pontypool's subdivision. Barry and David Brown of Kingston have again moved into Mrs. Rennie's home and are enrolled at Sir Sandford Fleming College, Lindsay. Ball Notes Belated congratulations to the Pontypool Midgets who won the championship for the fourth consecutive year in the Pontypool and District Soft- ball League. They defeated Ops in four straight games to retain the Ouellette Cup. Team members: Gerry Fallis c, Kelly Neals p, Michael Smith lst b, Paul Richardson 2nd b, Mark Bradley 3rd b, Martin Joncas ss, George Hamilton If, Stephen MeGilI cf, Steven Stewart rf, subs - Tim McKee, Kevin Preston, Michael Mitchell and Mark Joncas. The team was coach- ed by Will Capeling and Charlie. McCullough. Follow- ing the final game Mr. and Mrs. Capeling hosted a victory party at their home. The Bethany and Pontypool Bantams coached by Robt. Kerr also played excellent ball this season. In the finals with Bailieboro it was necessary to play the full seven games before Bailieboro came through to take the 7th game. Local boys on this team were Michael and Danny Mitchell, Kevin Preston and Todd Miller. Pontypool Junior Girls lost their final game with Mill- brook by one run. Our local PeeWees are currently in the finals with Bethany and are leading the series 3 games to 1. The next game is to be played in Ponty- pool on Wed. night at 6:15. Congratulations to Ponty- pool's Richardson Farms' team which participated in a tournament in Omemee on the holiday weekend and defeated teams from Oshawa, Camp- bellford and Lindsay to win the championship and $100.00. Consolation winner was the Holiday Ford team from Peterborough with Ponty- pool's Kelly Neals pitching. Two weeks ago Pontypool Ladies were also the champs at an Omemee tournament. This Sunday, Sept. 12th, there will be two games in our local ball park. At 2 p.m. the Cathmar Well Drillers of the Scugog League commence their playoffs. Sunday evening Dunford Electrie of Millbrook will be here to take on Richardson Farms at 7 p.m. This final series has Millbrook leading Pontypool 2 games to 1. STARKVILLE Miss Michele Hallowell, Welcome, was a visitor with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stark on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Robinson, Marty and Cheryl spent a couple of days holidaying in New York at Fantasy Island and touring the African Sarafi in Rockton last week. It was a busy Sunday for Mrs. Helen Schmid and Sid Rutherford of Orono who autographed copies of the recently published Clarke history entitled "Out of the Mists." Several hundred present and former residents of Clarke not only came to the Odd Fellows Hall to obtain their signed history books, but they also crowded into the nearby Clarke Museum for a tour of the interesting exhibits.
