Wiseman, presi- dent, opened the meeting with words of welcome to those present, and paying a tribute to the late Miss Ethel Chap- man, an honored institute member and noted writer. Mrs. T., Buttery gave the minutes, treasurer's report, and correspondence. A senior training sehool on milk andi dairy foods to be held at Orono. A short course on Fabrics to be held at Maple Grove later this year. The Area Convention is in: Toronto Nov. 4 and 5. Theme - Leadership. Mrs. M. Flintoff elected delegate with Mrs. J. Brine alternate. A report on Officers' Con- ference, at Waterloo was given by Mrs. L. Tomlinson, delegate to it. Prince Edward Island has the second largest tourist industry of Canada. Mrs. Buttery gave an ac- count of hier travels through. Northern Ontario to Kenora. Mining seems to be the special attraction for many others are hunters or fishermen. She visited an amethyst mine near Thunder Bay bringing back rock, natural and polished. Her pictures were of interest also, waterfalls, oddities of nature. Mrs. Twist had travelleti west to British Columbia, and had visited various places bringing back Jade stone which was interesting. On hier trip down coast, she showed us a flower holder made from Myrtie wood, of which is grown only in Oregon and the Holy Land. A beautiful piece of carving. Crossing the United States home, she had some Indian crig n Mrs. isema, a nd it Mrs. Buttery, Mrs. Patfield and Mrs. Spicer attended the F.W.I.C. Convention in Char- lottetown, P.E.I. She had a pictorial scrapbook of, their trip. We were ail interested and it was well arranged in the book. Mrs. Twist conducted an oral quiz on Canada. The meeting closed after Mrs. Wiseman thanked those taking part. Next meeting is Oct. 7, 1976 with Mrs. C. This meeting is an organization meeting where we picked our president, Kathyrn Knox, vice president Janice Yellowlees, secretary, Lois Van Camp. press report- er and met our leaders Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tink. In their greenhouse they have import- ed and domestic plants. Our next meeting we had a guest speaker fromý Brooklin, Mr.' Gordon Wick. He presented'a presentatian on Annual and Perennial plants. Our fourth meeting we had another guest speaker, G.W. Cummings, Assistant Director of the RoyalBotanical Gardens in Hamilton. At our last meeting, Marilyn Knox gave us a demonstratio'n on flower ar- ranging, Our 4-H club also participa- ted in the Annual Exhibition for the Durham Regian Glad- iolus Society. Our Achievement Day was held last Tuesday, August 31. For Achievement Day we have a car tour which goes around to all the members homes.
