4 The Canadian Statesman, Bownianviil'e. Septernber 22, 1976~ TRONE Tlhe Septem ber meeting of Tyrone U.C. W. was held in the C.E. Wing on September 8, 1976 at 8 p.m. wîth 17 ladies and 3 guests in attendance. With President Bessie Van- eyk and Arlene Yeo in charge of the program for the evening, the meeting started with words of welcome by the President and the singing of a hymn. A reading "New Begin- nings", written by Bessie Vaneyk brought a most inter- esting and worthwhile mes- sage of the many people starting on new adventures this month of September, and that although we should al- ways treasure today, we must always be looking forward to tomorrow. Arlene Yeo then presented a prayer in poetry and the devotional closed with a hymn. The minutes of the June meeting were read and ap- proved. The offering was dedicated. Carol Southwell gave the treasurer's report showing a balance at August 3lst of $891.71. Lorna Davey read a thank you letter from our foster child. A motion was made to purchase carts for the new hall from Mr. Gibbs. Jane Woodley then gave a report on catering, both past and future. After a lengthy discussion with many suggestions and opinions, it was decided due to the catering commitments this Fali, that we forego the 1976 Harvest Home Canvass as sucli, and commit catering profits to the end of December to Tyrone stewards. Mrs. Edna Wood and Mrs. Jacqueline Vaneyk then vol- unteered to head up a commit- tee to review the Harvest Home Cards with a view to some form of visitation, and to bring a report to the October meeting. Our appreciation to all those for their financial support in the past and anyone wishing to make a Harvest Home dona- tion this year should contact any U.C.W. member. Our guests for, the evening, Mrs. Caroline McKay and Mrs. Audrey Estebrook, gave interesting demonstrations of punch embroidery, cameo art and macrame, showing how even our leisure hours can be a time for producing things of beauty and usefulness. The meeting closed with a, luncheon of tea and delicious sandwiches served by our hostesses, Mrs. Bessie Vaneyk and Mrs. Arlene Yeo. Tyrone people have re-dîs- covered the joys of hayriding and have taken to it with abandon. It seems there is one almnost every weekend.,.Last week, it was the boys from the Junior and Senior Softball teams. Apparently they had a good time. The Taylor-Phillips Scaven- ger Hunt, an annual affair ever since Billie Taylor start- ed it a few years ago, was on again. The 1976 champs are Grenville Byam and his team mates. Ralph Davey and Velma Phillips set up the. course. Mrs. Cecîle Bowers report-, ed at Sunday's Hall Board meeting that the new, hall is rented every weekend except one until 1977. The Athletic Association is holding its Faîl Dance on October l6th. Tickets are available though any of the coaches.
