NEWTON VILLE Sunday dinner guests, a week ago, with Mr. and Mrs. S.J. Lancaster included Rev. and Mrs. Aubrey Tizzard, son Michael and friend, Drew McQuat, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chard, and girls, of Newcastle. Mrs. Isabel Waters, Mrs. Winnie Elliott, Mrs. Iva Far- row, Mrs. Milligan and Ber- nice were among the bus load of Senior Citizens from New- castle, going to Toronto, last Monday. They visited the Allen Gardens, had supper at Honest Ed's, and attended, "Front Page Challenge" in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Jones spent a couple days, the latter part of last week, in Eganville, where they visited Mrs. Hazel Davis. Mrs. Bill Clark, of Paisley, spent last week here, with Mrs. Don Vinkle and during the week, Mrs. Pat McDonald and two children, of Janet- ville, were also visitors. Visitors the past week with ,Mr. and Mrs. F Gilmer, included Mrs. L. Clysdale, Mrs. Elva Osborne, Mrs. Carrie Osborne, Mrs. Bea Jones. Mrs. Mary Jones. Mrs. Jean Payne and Mr. Jim Adams, the latter being a supper guest on Thursday. Rev. and Mrs. A. Tizzard, Mrs. Foster, and Miss C. Stewart, of Kendal, Mrs. Bea Jones and Mrs. Inez Boughen, were among those attending the dinner and evening con- nected with "The United Church Observer," held last Thursday in St. Paul's United Church, Bowmanville. Messrs. Trueman Hender- son, Don Vinkle, Sid Brown, Sid and Jerry Stacey were hunting in the north country the end of the week. Greeters of our church door, Sunday morning were Sandra McInnes, and Wallace Bough- en. For the second successive Sunday the church was filled to capacity, as the Cubs, Beavers, Scouts, Brownies and Guides, with their Lead- ers, were in attendance and the altar was decorated ap- propriately, with poppies. Rev. Tizzard's theme, "Re- membrance", was in keeping with the approaching Nov. l1th and the choir sang, "The Church In the Vale." Following the service most of those present gathered at the Cenotaph, where, follow- ing the singing of "O Canada", led by Mrs. Tizzard, there was a laying of Wreaths by the five youth groups, after which "Lights Out" was played by bugler Ed Hoad and two minutes silence was observed. "Reveille" was then sound- ed by the bugler, and "God Save the Queen" was sung, bringing the memorial service to a close. Another such service is to be held in Newtonville School, on Thursday, Nov. il at 10. Everyone is invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Peers of Scarborough, were Sunday visitors. here. with Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ton. Mr. and Mrs. Don Stapleton were supper guests, Sunday, with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Donnelly and family, Port Hope. Mr. Jim Adams spent the weekend in Toronto with Mr. and Mrs. G. Adams and family. Sunday afternoon, a little surprise birthday party was held there in honor of Jim and other attending, included Mr. and Mrs. George Fulfit, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Adams, Brampton. Mrs. Bea Jones and Mrs. Leone Lane were supper guests, Sunday, with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gray and girls, Orono. Supper guests, Sunday, with Mr. and Mrs. Don Vinkle, were Mr. and Mrs. C. Gilmer of Cameron and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gilmer of Janetville. With Mrs. Agnes Burley, Sunday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Burley, Rodney and Wendy, of Ennismore. Mr. and Mrs. F. Gilmer were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gilmer and family, Port Hope. Owing to Graduation Exercises at Port Hope Collegiate, Satur- day evening, son Jeff was home from Waterloo Universi- ty and daughter Karen, home from Trent University over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. S. Lancaster, Mrs. Acey Farrow, Mr. Wal- lace Boughen, and Rev. and Mrs. Tizzard were among those attending the service in Westminster United Church, Oshawa, Sunday evening. The speaker was the moderator of the United Church Rev. Wil- bur K. Howard and a question period, and social hour follow- ed the service. Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. Bea- vers meet in our Church Hall. 6:30 p.m. Brownies meet in our Church Hall. Thursday, 10 a.m. Remem- brance Day service in New- tonville Public School. 6:30 p.m. Girl Guides meet in our Church Hall. 7:00 p.m. Boy Scouts meet in School Auditorium. Mr. and Mrs. T. Henderson were supper guests Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. C. Brown, Newcastle. Newtonville's Women's Institute will meet at the house of Mrs. Harry Wade, Newcastle, on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m. All ladies are welcome. ENNISKILLEN The Sunday a.m. church service was well attended and the folks who gathered for worship received three excel- lent messages, i.e. The Child- ren's Story entitled "Don't Lose It", Rev. H. Kempling's sermon with the topic "The Church - The Body of Christ". The Choir's Anthem was delightful with Ray Ashton presiding at the organ. Although some faces were missing at the S.S. service for various reasons yet it was well attended. From the U.N.I.C.E.F. boxes given out at S.S. for Hallowe'en we are pleased to report the amount collected was $103.25. This week's events - was the evening with the "Moderator Dr. Wilbur Howard in North- minster U.C. Sunday evening when a good representation from our two congregations enjoyed our Moderator's mes- sage. On Wednesday, at 8 p.m. The Sunshine Club met at Hilda Wright's home to stuff toys for their Christmas project. The Youth Group's weekly meeting was at Donald Row- an's home last Thursday evening. Pres. Barbara Ash- ton was in charge of opening worship. Roll call was answer- ed bv member's favourite vegetable. Minutes were read and approved as given by Sec. Debbie Pollard, Treas. Don Rowan gave financial report of Masquerade proceeds. Plans for trip to Welland were completed, also postponed tree planting project and fun evening. Next meeting, Mon- day, Nov. 15th at Beth, Barbara and Allan Ashton's home. Last Saturday, at 9 a.in. our Youth Group left for its trip to Welland, Ont. Ten members, two assocate members, Coun- cellor and Chaperone Couple, Diane and Allan Werry, tra- velled 135 miles bycar to the Manse home of Rev. Leceister and Hazel Bigby and family for the weekend. When the three car loads reached their destination, the visitors had a tour of the Manse, Wesley United Church and the city of Welland on Saturday and were entertained in the Christian Education Rooms of Wesley U.C. by its Youth Group and the Bigby family with a delicious dinner, social even- ing and overnight accommo- dation. Sunday morning they enjoyed a buffet breakfast and attended S.S. and church service to join with the congregation in the Sacra- ment of Holy Communion and heard the S.S. meditation related to Remembrance Day and Rev. Bigby's sermon with its topic a question "Are We Walking Out on Jesus, Too?" The Group signed the Guest Book, enjoyed lunch at the Manse, expressed their words of thanks, au revoirs and Pres. Barbara Ashton presented the Group's appreciation gift to the Bigby family and returned home from a superbly mem- orable weekend, bringing back "Greetings" from the Bigby family and Wesley U.C. folks in Welland. Miss Candy Clark, Mr. Howie McCallum, Oshawa were visitors with the A. Leadbeater's and boys. Mr. and Mrs. Len Player and boys, Mr. and Mrs. On Saturday, October 16th, 1976, Starr Lynn daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ferrill of Bowmanville became the bride of Rickey Gene Smale son of Mrs. Eileen Smale and the late Mr. Smale of Oshawa. The bride was given away by her father and the attend- ants were Mr. and Mrs. Pete Pinsent of Bowmanville. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. F. Douglas Ashton and Paul, Bowmanville were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton. Mr. and Mrs. Bud McNair were weekend guests with Mr. and Mrs. Van Clieaf, Sudbury. Mr. and Mrs. James Pig- gott, Bowmanville were re- cent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. W. Piggott and family. A quilting bee took place this week at the home of Mrs. Harvey McGill, with many ladies on different days, and I must say many good laughs and a delicious luncheon served with a good cup of tea. Mrs. Morley Gilroy, Brook- lin and sister Miss Christina Samis, Oshawa were recent callers on Miss La Verne Orchard at the home of Mr. t Paul Erb in Hampton United Church. Among those present were the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ferrill and Mrs. Gladys Sills of Campbell- ford, Ont., also present wre the brides Godparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Visser of Bow- manville. The happy couple are resid- ing at 37 Elgin St.E. in Oshawa Ont. Beckett, had the misfortune of cutting his thumb and two fingers on left hand with a saw and was in the Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville for a few days, but is home now. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. Adam Sharp, 'was an overnight guest with Mr. and Mrs. B. Wonnamaker, Sea- grave and attended their church supper. On his way home he called on Mr. and Mrs. Ed Harris, Blackstock. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Lamb were Thursday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lamb, Bailieboro. Michael Holmes, St. Cathar- mes, was a weekend guest with Mrs. Gertie Lyons. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Rahm, Bowmanville were recent cal- lers at Mr. A Sharp's. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Lamb were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Wray, Orono. Margaret and Orville Ash- ton accompaniedMarjorie and Harry Worden on a imaginary trip to Central Africa in the Travelogue sponsored by the Kiwanis Club at Eastdale Collegiate last Monday evening. Our' deepest sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. S. Pethick in the death of Mrs. Pethick's sister, the late Mrs. Elmer Dickinson, also to her sorrowing son Wilbur, two daughters Elma and Mona and families as well as other close relatives. The Dickinson family were residents for some years on a farm at the foot of our big hill. Sorry to report Mrs. Roy McGill is in hospital for professional attention.
