4 The Canadian Statesman Bo Guest Artist Trumpet soloist, Johnny Cowell will be the guest artist for the first in a series of four concerts sponsored by the Bowmanville Concert Associ- ation Mr. Cowell, a composer and a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, will perform on Saturday, January 30th in the Bowmanville High School. The Oshawa Sym- phony Orchestra will also perform on January 30th. Tickets are available through the Bowmanville High School music deonatm"n. Trinity U.C.W. Trinity U.C.W. held their Christmas meeting a week early on Tuesday, Diec. 14 with about 50 members present. President Mrs. A. Blair open- ed the meeting with a wel- come to all, a Christmas verse and prayer. After the minutes, read by Mrs. M. Slute, and the treasurer's report, read by Mrs. A. Harris, a discussion about supplying cookies for Meals on Wheels for January was held. The number of people receiving this service bas grown recently so that 10 dozen cookies or 5 dozen small cakes or muffins are required each week. Mrs. C. Downey and Mrs. F. Jamieson volun- teered to look after the early part of January. The rest of the month will be decided at the Executive Meeting to be held Friday, January 7,1977. Annual reports from all the officers followed. Correspond- ing Secretaryl Mrs. H. Ham- mond, reported 532 cards of all types sent during the year. Mrs. A. Brooks reported more than 7 lbs of used stamps already sent and is hoping for many mo resaved from the Christmas mail. She also took the 34 pair of glasses, which had accumulated in the U.C.W. drawer, to be sent to the Dominion Republic where the need is great. Mrs. Tait reported $27,000 in Dominion Store tapes turned over to Mrs. J. Campbell for use by Crippled Children's School. Mrs. L. Tomlinson, Literature and Program, Mrs. H. Jef- fery, Press and Publicity, Mrs. C. Trewin. Christian and Missionery Education and Mrs. A. Huils, Mernbership chairman gave short and encouraging reports of their year's work Social Co-ordinator, Mrs. C. Downey listed the catering for the year-weddings, wedding anniversaries, after church and after funeral lunches, and Lion's Club catering-and these did not include work done by individual units. Mrs. C. Morrison reported the kitchen in good order. Mrs. A.H. Harris, treasurer, reported an excellent year. After meeting al obligations, including extra gifts to the Steward's and World Relief, the Treasury showed a balance of over $4000 on Dec. 1, 1976. The finance committee under Mrs. R. Coombes, made the following recommendations: 1 a fur- ther contribution to the Ste- wards, finally to retire the church bank loans; 2. more to World Development and Re- lief 3. more to the Presbyterial 4. money toward new kitchen dishes and manse needs 5. a new carpet for the parlour. for the parlour These were all accepted, but the members were warned that because things have gone well financially this year there should be no relaxation we still have a problem filling the executive slate. Money seems easier to come by than executive service-and both are essential. Supply and welfare report from Mrs. G. Barrie was read by Mrs. R. Coombes, showing a very active year. Mrs. Blair extended thanks to all the Committee Chairmen for a year of rewarding work and included in her thanks the Units and Mlrs. B. Bail who supplied the church Sunday flowers and Mrs. J. Munday who suppiied piano music at meetings. With the roll eall of units, each leader reported on their year's activities. These were full of interest so varied had been the meetings and special projects of each The Nominating Committee report was read by Mrs. T. Rehder. followed by the instal- lation of officers for 1977 by Rev. A. Amacher. The program aided by Mrs. J. Peters. It was entitled The Moods ut Christmas. These were presented in carols, Bible readings, narration and prayer, depicting the rmoods of waiting, reluctance, confu- sion and finally joy.
