Midgets defeated Lindsay 4-3 to chalk up their eighth win in ne league games, in Lindsay on Thursday. Doug Hayes in goal was out-standing. Goals were by Larry Devitt, Bob--Howes and Bruce Simpson. The Toros did notplay good hockey for the first two periods and consequently'f eh behind 5-1. In the third, tbe Toros made up their'minds to play hockey and took control of the game, scoring two more goals. Goal scorers were Brian Canfield with two and Jeff Sallows with a. goal and an assist. Tony Clieff also picked up an assist on Sallows' goal. The MeGregor club piayed Whitby on January 9, and came up with their best effort of the season. The Toros mus t have been reading their press clippings of late and set out to prove this writer wrong in calling them sissies. From the_ opening whistle to the final buzzer the Toros bit,, skated- and worked very hard against a strong Whitby team and came away with a 2-2 tie. Brian Canfield scored from Jeff Sallows, and- Garf McQuaid gave the Toros a short lived lead but after Whitby tied the score McQuaid got the go-ahead' goal unaâssisted. Then with the Whitby goalie on the bench for an extra forward they tied it up with just 38 seconds left in the game. 1Don Reefke had a great game in goal for the Toros as did Dennis Simpson on de- fence who handed out a couple of the bardest checks of the game. Here, the Petes scored their lone goal to tie up the game 3-3 witb seconds remaîning in the game. Don Farrow gave a breakaway pass to Scott Stevens, who let it slip hy onhy to have the Peterborough goalie skate to their blueline to intercept the loose puck. But Don Farrow beat the goalie to the puck and shot the pucek in to score the, winning goal in the empty net. The Major Midgets third encounter was against Osh- awa in an exhibition game, where they came out as the victors wîth a score of 8-4. The majority of the scoring, was done in the first period, as Scott Stevens, Gary D ussel- dorp (2) and' Dan Strike scored for the Toros. There were also 3 goals scored by Oshawa, leaving the game in a 4-3 score until the second period. In this period there was only one goal scored by the Toros. Scott Stevens scored this goal as he was given the puck from Don Farrow, aliowing the Toros to take a commanding 5-3 lead. The firal period passed quickly as oth team-s skated, this period the Toroýîs once more outscored the Oshawa club. Sitting in the penalty box or beingejected from a game does not win hockey games. This was the case in Markham Sunday, Jan. 2 when several penalties were assessed plus 3 game mîsconducts with Mark- ham suffering the most numn- ber of minutes including 2 player ejections. "Duke" Brunt gave Bow- manville the lead on an unassisted power play goal in the first period. Markham tied the score six minutes later on a deflected shot from the, point. in the second period, Bow- manville scored three unan- s wered goals which were enough for the victory. Ralph Cryderman back-handed the pucR into the net assisted by Brunt and Rick Cross. Neil Ryan, the third member of the Cryderman-Brunit line, scored at 10: 31 of the second with assists going to Brunt and JAm Hutton. Less than a minute inter St., Mary's fourth and final goal was scored by Jerry Leddy set up by Tim Button- shaw and Steve Hogarth, Markham closed out the scoring with the ,only goal of the third period. The Juveniles complete their schedule this week - Tues., Jan. 4th at Hampton against Cobourg, and Thurs., Jan. 6th at Stouffville.
