Burns ln the fîrst game, D&R Sports broke their' losing streak by upsetting Cowan Pontiac-Buick 8 to 7. D&R got on the board first when Larry Perris scored, assisted by Tom 'Nowlan and Phil Johnson. Cowan's tied the gamne before the first ended when Irv Gill tallied fromn Kim Rogers. , The second saw Cowan's take the lead when Mike Corneil tallied fromn Ron Hooper. D&R tied the match when Tom Nowlan scored from Brian Rowe and Larry Perris. Cowan's then took the lead back after Randy Dono- ghue scored, assisted by Irv Gili and Kim Rogers. D&R came back to take thelead with two goals, the first by Phil Johnson with James Baker assisting, and the second by Larry Perris with Brian Rowe and Tom Nowlan assisting. Cowan's came back to tie when Mike Corneli scored his second goal assist- ed by Paul Forsey. ' ut D&R took the lead at the end of the second when Tom Nowlan scored lis second fromn Brian Rowe and Larry Perris. The third saw Cowan's score fromn Kim Rogers with Mike Cornell and Joe Caruana assisting to tie the match, but D&R hit agaîn as James Baker scored from Barry Oliver. Again Cowan's tied it when Randy Donoghue scored his second goal fromIrv Gil and Kim Rogers. D&R took the leaçl for good when James Baker scored his second and third goals assisted by Barry Oliver twice, Ted Brown and Tom Nowlan. Cowan's netted one more before the game ended by Kimi Rogers, his second, from Randy Dono- ghue. 1The second game was much dloser as W. Frank Real Estate and Spencer Real Estate fought for first place. There wasn't any scoring until the second period when Waynè Paedon tallied for Franks, assisted by Martin Goldberg. IFranks then took a 2 to 0 lead when Gary Wilson scored fromn Steve Burns and Rick Woolner. Spencers got on the board before the second ended when Bob Harness DEPARTME tallied from Ed Porte and John Taylor. The third saw Franks'in- crease their lead when Rick Woolner scored from Jim Burtch and then Bryan Hughes tallied from Tim Prout and Terry Russell. Junior C action at the Bowmanville Memorial Arena Su nday night, the four hundred fans Who turned out on a very cold nighit to see the Port Darlington Marina and Hotel Eagles meet the Stouf- fville Clippers were treated to somfe excêellent goalscoring plays by Eagles. Some of the goals were a freat to see picture plays including breakaways, per- fectly timed passes to the slot, a shot too hot to handle, and stickbandling perfection. The game saw very fast skating especially by the Eagles Who had control of the game most of the way. Both teams came to play clean hockey with Eagles checking well and-Clippers looking for two points to help in their hunt for a third place finish. The only heavy assess- ment by the referee was tossing the Clipper coach Murray Sinclair off the bench in the third after being warned earlier in thegae Eagles started the scoring in the first on a power play goal, Gary Cox scoring on a tip in assist by Ted Puk and Rory GXibbs. GryNemisz counted' theý next Eagle goal, a backhander assisted by line- mates Boyd Knox and Rory Gibbs. AI Emard scored the Eagles third goal after some dazzling stickhandling through the entîre Clipper team (o finish first period scoring. Boyd Knox started second period scoring, cashing in on his own rebound assisted by AI Emard. Terry Sarginson scored the next goal on a breakaway making no mis- take putting the puck upstairs. Terry Sarginson found the target again scoring on a perfect passout from Run Strike-with Nick Vanseggelen- also earning an assist. Clip- pers got on the scoreboard Taylor from Emmerson and Brown. Eagles Ted Puk broke down bis left wing and let a inside edge on taking third spot then Lindsay, Port Perry and Cobourg in the chase for fourth, fifth and sixtb playoff spots. There was no scoring until laie in the first period when Brian Ruddy scored an unassisted goal at the 9:50 mark. The second period was the same way, close checking hockey from both teams. The only scoring of this period came at the 4.40 mark with Joe Nihill getting the goal from Rod Plain and Brian Ruddy. Wood Minor Bantams Win' Final Lecgue Gamne By Bill Paterson' On Monday Jan. 17, 1977, Bowmanville H.L. Wood Ban- tam Toros journeyed (o Bay Ridges for a postponed game and came home 4 to 2 victors. The first'period went score- less with many good chances being turned back by botb goaltenders. The Transporters, opened the scoring in the second period with only 19 seconds left on the dlock, Mark Matthews converting a pass from Kevin Welsh and Ryan Kearney. Then Tim Almond stole the puck and went in for a beautiful goal with 9:42 left in the third period. Bay Ridges got their first to be followed by one by the Toros' Kevin Welsh from Jan Janack and Mark McLean and the last one with only two minutes left when Jon Janack ,took a pass from Kevin Welsh and Doug Dilling to score. Bay Ridges scored the second and last with only one minute and 30 seconds to go. Paul Adams played one of bis best games in net to lead the Bowmanville squad -to vîctory. On Jan. lSth, the Trans- porters played host to Lindsay in their last league meeting before tbe play offs. The visitors came expecting to swamp the Toros îike they did in their last meeting but met a very determined team wbo wben they were scored upon after five minutes had elasped, came back 17 seconds later (o tie it up on a beautiful wrist shot hy Mark MeLean assýisted by Kevin Wetsh and Mark Matthews. One minute later Ryan Kearney took a pass fromn Jon Janack to put the Transporters ahead 2-1.
