Team members are Ruth Brock, Peggy Goulah, Betty Brock, Dot Hoékin, Helen Terry, Jean Perfect, Ruth Bragg, Hilda Brock, Emma Bra gg, Carol Caswell, Lorna Sudds, Dot Kilpatrick and Doris Larmer. FLASHBACK - 10 YEARS AGO - Mary Jane Oke of Bowmanville, and her partner Victor Irving of Unionville, won the Canadian Junior Pairs Champions in figure skating at the finals held Saturday in Willowdale. DUPLICATE BRIDGE - winners for Tuesday, January 25th were lst - Mrs. Anne Berry and Mrs. Una Miller, 2nd Mrs. Anne Stewart and J. B. Stewart. WINTER FUN - The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority is offering sleigh rides at Enniskillen Conservation Area on Saturday, February 5 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Conservation Area. On Sunday, February 6th, the C.L.O.C.A. staff will be leading a hike at Lynde Shores Conser- vation Area. The emphasis during the hike will be Wildlife - see and identify birds and animal tracks. Meet at the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority office at 1650 Dundas St., E., Whitby (opposite the Whitby Mall) at 9:30 a.m. The hike will return to the office by 12:30 p.m. The hike will go "rain or shine". Frank Real Estate 4 to 2. D&R opened the scoring with the only goal in the first frame by Tom Nowlan with Larry Perris and Scott Bur- gess assisting Frank's tied the match early in the second when Steve Burns tallied from Bryan Hughes and Tim Prout. Five minutes later D&R went in front on a unassisted goal from Larry Perris. Frank's tied the game again before the second ended when Rick Woolner scored assisted by Gary Wilson and John Colwell. The third was all D&R as James Baker hit at 15:55 unassisted and then Scott Burgess put one in the empty net assisted by Tom Nowlan. The second game was wide open as Cowan Pontiac-Buick tied with second plavce Spencer Real Estate. Cowan started the scoring off when Mike Cornell tallied from Ron Hooper. Spencers came back to take the lead with two goals, one from Bob Howes unassisted and the other from Rick Rademacher with John Woodcock and Rick Shackelton assisting. Cowan's came back when Randy Dono- ghue tallied from Joe Caruana and the Paul Forsey put Cowan's in front assisted by Mick Cornell. Cowan's then increased their lead when Mick Cornell scored from Lockie McNair. Spencers came within one before the first ended when Bruce Os- borne tallied from Rick Rade- macher and Bob Harness. The second started with Cowan's Mike Cornell scoring first with Paul Forsey and Bruce Welsh assisting. Spencers bounced back when Jim Brooks scored assisted by Terry Baker, and then Bob Howes scored his second unassisted 1 goal to tie the match at 5 a piece at the end of the second. The third saw Cowan's hit first again as Mike Cornell scored his fourth goal from Paul Forsey. Spen- cers came back to tie when Bob Howes scored his third goal from John Taylor. Cow- an's took the lead again as Randy Donoghue scored his second from Ron Hooper. With seventeen seconds lef t Rollie Simpson tied the game up for Spencers with Rick Shackel- ton getting the assist. Next week is the final game of the regular schedule with Spencers taking on D&R in the first game, and Cowan's meeting Frank's in the seconds. Cummings Major Bantams Record Three Victories By B. Harris On Sunday, Jan. 23rd, the Cummings crew journeyed to Lindsay and recorded a- 5-2 victory. This was the second game of the best of five series and gave the Toros a strangle- hold 2-0 games lead. Captain Rick Simpson led the Toros when he scored three goals in the span of 42 seconds in the first period. Brad Hockin received credit for an assist on Simpson's second goal and the other two goals were individual efforts. The two teams exchanged second period goals as the Toros took a 4-1 lead into the third period. Steve Braun got the Toros fourth goal when he drilled a hard shot to the upper corner of the net. Stan Greenham and Ken Hoy picked up assists on Braun's goal. Lindsay scored to cut the margin to 4-2 in the third period but Neil Jones and Simpson set Brad Hockin for the final goal. Final score Toros 5 Lindsay 2. On Wednesday, Jan. 26th Lindsay paid a return visit to Darlington and were elimin- ated from the playdowns when the Cummings crew handed them a 9-6 defeat. The Toros got off to a fast start and held a 4-0 first period lead. Rob De Boo started the scoring when set up by Simpson and Kevin Noble. Chuck Welsh scored the 2nd goal when he was set up by Braun and Brent Clemens. Braun got the third goal with assists to Welsh and Clemens. The final goal of the period was scored by Braun assisted by Clemens. The last 3 goals of the period were scored by the line of Clemens, Welsh and Braun. Thëy scored their goals within the time span of 18 seconds and entertained the crowd with crisp passing and accurate shooting. Lindsay outscored the Toros 3-1 in the second period and cut the Toros lead to 5-3. Toros' only goal of the 2nd period was scored by Ken Hoy with assists to Randy Mac- Donald and Pete Keene. The third period was a wide open, high scoring affair with Toros outscoring Lindsay 4-3. The Toros scoring was started by Keene with assists to Noble and MacDonald. MacDonald then scored with an assist to Keene. Hockin scored when he was set up by the hard work of Carl Chambers. The final Toros' goal was scored by Terry Riggers when he flip- ped his rebound past the Lindsay goalie. Final score Toros 9, Lindsay 6. The Toros now await the winner of the Markham Cobourg series. On Thursday, Jan. 27, Bow- manville travelled to Bay Ridges and recorded their fifth victory over this AA club as they eked out a 3-2 victory. Clemens got the Toros started with a goal in the first period. Assists on the play went to Riggers and Welsh. Forty-one seconds later Bay Ridges tied it up. Rob. De Boo completed the first period scoring when he drilled a hard shot past the Ridge's goalie. Assist on the goal went to Riggers. The two teams battled through a- scoreless second period. In the third period, with the Toros clinging to a 2-1 lead disaster struck. With two men in the penalty box and less then a minute to go the Ridge's team came up with the equalizer. But their joy was short lived as Greenham and Simpson set up Chuck Welsh for the winning goal with only 7 seconds left in the game. Final score Toros 3 Bay Ridges 2. John Storgaard and Brook Cole shared the duties between the pipes in this game. Hopefully, next home game will be a playoff encounter on Feb. 5th at 8:00 in Bowman- ville against either Cobourg or Markham. Attersley Tire Bantams Defeat Newcastle 2 to i On January 30th, Bowman- ville Attersley Tire Bantams hosted Newcastle Stedman team at Bowmanville arena. The teams were evenly matched with Attersley Tire scoring the first goal in the second period by centre Terry DeLuca, assists ' going to Darrell Goudey and Ed Kow- alski. Newcastle came right back tying the game with a nice play by Kevin Wade who scored, assisted to Greg- Martin and Ron Matrailler. Determined efforts by all, gave Attersley the winning goal, scored by Derek Lam- ent,rassisting were Paul Maner and Vaughn Wells. Credit goes to Attersley goalie Dale Grant who came up with some key saves. Attersley tied their first Exhibition game January 6th against Newcastle Stedman team score 3-3 Attersley going down to defeat in the return game,2-1. On January 22nd Attersley hosted a Toron- to Select team and were defeated 3-0. Oshawa hosted Attersley Tire on January 30th and Attersley lost 3-0, but plafed an excellent game. Delta Faucet Midgets End Schedule with Win Over Stouffville 3-1 The Delta Faucet Midgets ended their regular schedule play on a triumphant note. ~ in Thursday, January 27th they visited Stouffville for the final game. The Toros demon- strated the hard working style of play they have developed through the season. They have become very effective at limiting the good opportun- ities of the attackers in Bowmanville's end. The Toros' defence continually defused Stouffville's attack while the forwards maintain- ed the pressure constantly. Steve Mayberry and Wayne Whiteman scored in the second period. Brian Dennis added a third score in the last period. Goaltender Paul Lav- igne was within seven seconds of acquiring another shutout. Two Toros were serving penalties when Stouffville fin- ally made the score sheet to end the game 3-1. The Toros have had a successful regular season win- ning sixteen matches against five defeats. They have devel- oped their team work and they are tough, to beat when they are playing together. The boys share the spirit of a winner and are anticipating a good showing in the playoffs. Larry Norton 144 points, 3. Guy Parks 118 points, 4. Dom Gallello 98 points. On January 18th the first game of the night was see-saw battle. First, the Hooper's blue team lead and then the Coronation's yellow team. The third quarter told the story. MEN'S BASKETBALL Hooper's teamn hit for 14 points while the yellow team could only manage 2. The final score was Hooper's 34 and The Coronation Cafe 28. Jan Steer- stra had 12 points for the blue team and Jeff Weaver had 8 points for the yellow team. In the second game, Tom Simpson's red team started to roll and dumped Ken's green team 43-28. Led by Larry Norton's 12 points and Walt Steenstra's 10, Simpson's team could just keep up. High man for the green teain was Keith Elliott with 14 points. Wood Transporters Lose to Trenton By Bill Paterson The Wood Transporters took on the Trenton AA Minor Bantams as their opposition in the Saturday, Jan. 22nd, Young Canada Day Tourna- ment. The Toros played strong hockey until Trenton scored on a power play at 7:52 of the first period. The Bowmanville boys skated hard in the second period and held the score down behind strong, solid goaltending by Grant Bradley, but at 13:15 point in the period Trenton counted their second. The third period was 3 minutes old when the opposi- tion banged home their third and final goal. Final score Trenton 3 Bowmanville 0. The most valuable player on the Bowmanville team 1. St. E. 668- 9383 The "77's"are Herel Preston's Mover Win Consolation An exciting weekend of hockey took place despite the weather when Preston the Mover Major Atom Toros journeyed to Peterborough to participate in a tournament and won the 'C' series Consolation championship. The Toros were to play their first game Friday afternoon at 4:15 but weather conditions forced them to cancel out. However, Saturday morning, early, they chanced the roads and met Collingwood in their opening game at the Memorial Centre. The Toros won the game 3-0, scoring 1 goal in each period with Gordie Rogers, Scott Heard and Scott Masters the marksmen. In their second game of the day, the Bowmanville team defeated Hespeler 3-1. There was no scoring in the first period but Danny Weir found the mark early in the second period. The Toros' second goal was scored by Chris Michel- son who let a shot go from the point. Hespeler scored their only goal in the final period when they took advantage of a penalty to the Toros. Ray- mond Cumming's insurance goal clinched the win for Bowmanville. The final game of the day was played against Milton who outscored the Toros 6-2. They took a commanding 5-0 lead in the opening period and it wasn't until the end of the mddle period that the Toros finally hit the scoreboard on a goal by Raymond Cummings. In the last period Chris Michelson scored for the Toros and Milton put their 6th goal into Bowmanville's net. Their 2 wins and a loss put them into the consolation finals which were played Sunday morning. In the most exciting game of the weekend they met Sharon and defeated them in overtime. Danny Weir scored for the Toros on a power play and Raymond Cummings added another goal to give the Toros a 2-0 lead. Sharon scored their first goal toward the end of the opening period and then in the second period a power play goal tied the game. The rest of the game remained scoreless so a 10 minute sudden death overtime started. Both teams had a number of scoring chances but it wasn't until the last second of the overtime that the Toros' Danny Weir finally bit paydirt and scored the winner for his team. Captain Raymond Cum- mings received the trophy for his team and then the 3 stars were announced and present- ed with Team Canada T shirts. First star was Chris Michelson of the Toros, 2nd star went to Sharon and Danny Weir was chosen as third star. George Kensrett and Jon Rowe shared the goaltending duties On Wednesday Jan. 26th the Toros played an exhibitionlI game against Bay Ridges who shut them out 4 goals to none. Bay Ridges scored once in the middle period and three times in the final to win the game. The Toros' next home game is on Friday February 4th at b p.m. in Memorial Arena against Whitby. 299 DEAN AVE.
