Bench warrent was issued for Ronald Jas. Abbott. Harold Wm. Moore, 21, Bowmanville, pleaded 'guilty' to an October 30 charge of assault on P.C. MacKay. Const. MacKay and Corp. Jones were caiea to a residence where a party was in progress without owner's consent. They had left the cottage and as the officers were walking down the lane, Moore suddenly appeared be- fore them and threw a glassful of liquor in Const. MacKay's face and lunged at the officer. He was extremely violent at the time. The fine was $250 or 24 days. Given 30 days to pay. Ronald H. Burgess, 16, 3 Summerfield Ct. Bowman- ville, was charged January 4 with having in his possession a 1973 Buick, the property of H. Robinson Automotive Ltd., Oshawa. He pleaded 'guilty'. The fine was $150 and costs or 14 days. Neil Laverne Hoy, Orono, represented by E.R. Lovekin, pleaded 'not guilty' to a charge laid December 30 of speeding 95 miles an hour in a 40 mile zone. Const. Bender was on patrol in the Leskard area and observed the vehicle southbound at a high rate of speed. Judge Bark found him 'guilty' as charged and re- duced the speed to 85 miles . The fine was $150 and costs or 14 days with license suspen- sion. William John Brown, 32, 85 Liberty St. S. Bowmanville, was charged October 6 'did drive while disqualified and pleaded 'guilty'. He was further charged October 12 at Oshawa with failing to appear in court for finger printing. Pleaded 'guilty'. On October 26 he again failed to appear at Oshawa and pleaded 'guilty'. Const. Logan checked a car being driven on Queen St. Mr. Brown had been suspended January 1976 for dangerous driving. He has a lengthy driving record. The crown said he has no regard for the law. The judge said 'it was hard to imagine a worse driving record. It is contempt of court if you drive when disqualified.' On the first charge he was sentenced to 2 months with driving privil- eges cancelled for 3 years. He was put on probation for 2 years to commence when released from jail. He is not to own or drive a car. He is to report to officer when requir- ed. He is to take anv medical treatment as advised by the probation officer. The judge will recommend the sentence be served under Temporary Absence Program. On each of the two failing to appear charges, he was given 20 days concurrent. Clayton Bennett, 46, 25 Varcoe's Rd, R.R. 6, Bowman- ville, was placed on suspended sentence for 6 months follow- ing a breach of his previous probation order. On January 4, Const. Cook attended at his residence and he attempted to drink from an empty bottle. he pleaded 'guilty'. He stated to court, he is trying to overcome his drinking habits. Allan Jas. Walker, 18, Hampton, pleaded 'guilty' to taking an 8 track tape at the local Canadian Tire store on January 15. The fine was $50 and costs or 5 days. Stewart Wight, 20, 50 Park- way Cr. Bowmanville, repre- sented by R. Matthews, pleaded 'guilty' to a charge laid February 12 of having in his possession of marijuana. A detective had a warrant and removed from a jacket a small bag. Our attendance was small, most of the business was carried over for March 7th meeting, Group 2 in charge. For something different for a program, Group one had a bingo table, and it was enjoyed, useful prizes to be taken. Mrs. M. Blackburn, Mrs. R. Potts, and Mrs. B. He was placed on suspended sentence for one year, following which a conditional discharge will be given. Jos. L. Dewsbury, Bowman- ville, pleaded 'guilty' to a January 23rd charge of having in his possession, marijuana. He was placed on suspended sentence for one year to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, following which will be given a conditional discharge. Kevin B. Umphrey, 18, Bowmanville, was charged November 19, 'did have in his possession a knife dangerous to the public peace.' He pleaded 'not guilty'. Const. Logan testified he was on patrol and observed him in a phone booth in front of a service station. Umphrey had blood on his hand. He was belligerent. In his right hand he had a pocket knife. He would not drop it. Const. Smith arrived and tried to get the knife. Umphrey stated he had been drinking in a hotel. He was found 'guilty' as charged. Counsel Greer stated his client has had nohing to drink since this episode. He was placed on suspended sentence for one year and is to refrain from alcoholic beverages. He is to report to officer as required. Shirley Tabb, Mrs. Fred Tabb, Bowmanville, Miss Dale Blackburn, Mrs. W. Blackburn spent Wednesday evening with Miss Lily Tabb, Mrs. Irene Tabb and James Tabb, the occasion of Lily Tabb's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Ashton, Miss Beth Ashton, Allan and Grant, were Sunday dinner euests of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Strenge and David, Mississauga. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Buttery, motored to Maple, Ontario on Monday. Mrs. H. Crossman was Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cameron and Shanna, Pontypool. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Potts, Charlene and Christopher, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Potts and Barbara, Cornwall. Charlene remained with the Delbert Potts family for a holiday. Mrs. Lloyd Ashton attended a shower for Miss Anna Boon, a bride-to-be at Mr. and Mrs. Orville Ashton's, Enniskillen, on Sunday. WiII Mint Coins For Anniversary The Honourable Jean- Pierre Goyer Minister of Supply and Services an- nounced recently that the Royal Canadian Mint will strike a silver dollar and a medallion to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In ddition, upqn approval of Parliament, the Mint will strike a $100 gold coin to honour the occasion. The issue of these coins and the medallion will mark an important event in the history of Canada for it not only celebrates the accession to the throne of Her Majesty but it also marks the appointment of the first Canadian-born citizen to the office of Governor General of Canada. The silver dollar (500 fine) will be issued in March 1977 and bear the effigy of Her Majesty on the obverse and on the reverse will feature the Throne of the Senate. The medallion will com- memorate the four Canadian- born Governors General. It will be struck in silver in a limited quantity and an unlim- ited amount in cupronickel. The obverse will bear the effigy of Her Majesty and the reverse will portray the four Canadian-born Governors General-Vincent Massey, Georges Vanier, Roland Michener, and Jules Leger. All four have held office during the reign of Her Majesty. In addition to the minting of coins and medallions, the Mint also handles sales of collect- or's item coins to the Europ- ean and United States mar- kets.
