Two of Spencer's Aidgefs In Ont. Showdo wn Finals Spencer Real Estate Mlajor Midgets Rick Bain and Don Farrow won their respective showdown east-west finals at Maple last Saturday. Bain defeated Greg Hart of Hespeller 15 points to 10 in overtime while Farrow downed Tirn Lawrence, also of Hespeler, 10 to 5.' They now face the winners of the Metropolitan Toronto Hockey League for the Ail Ontario Showdown Championship next Sunday at the Markham Centeinnial Arena. We wish them all the best. Mary Brown's Novices Win Consolation Chaminsi Un Pine Ridge Touaen On Thursday, March 24th Mary Browns Toros played their first game in the Pine Ridge Tournament against Bay Ridges and were defeated by a close score of 3-2. Bay Ridges opened the scoring in the irst period but Toros Mark Hickey tied the score 1-1 with Chris Beck assisting on the play. in the second period, the Toros went ahead 2-1 with Jay Kelly scoring from Shawn Rekker, and Mark Hickey. The Toros' defeat came late in the 3rd period as Bay Ridlges banged in two power play goals and the score remnained 3-2 for Bay Ridges, sending them on the Champ- ionship side and put the Toros on the Consolation side of the Tournamient. The second game for the Novices was played the, same day against Bancroft and the Toros shut the visitors out 4-0. Troy Harmer and David Smith shared the goaltending dluties and have now have reclorded 11 shutouts this season. Scoring for Mary Browns Toros were Mark Hickey 2, Kelly Balson and Paul Herron one each assist went to Paul Herron 2, Shawn Martin 2. Mike Knight and Mark Hickey 1 each. The Championship game was played Saturday March 26 in the Bowmanville area with Mary Brown's Toros up against the Pickering Village Alîstars. The Toros opened the sco- ing in the first period with Kelly Balson scoring fromn Chris Beck and Shawn Rek- ker. Mark Hickey scored from Paul Herron to give the Toros a 2 goal lead before Pickering scored and ended the first period 2-1 Toros. Bantams, Take Dykstra Trophy in Local Finals The second period was a see-saw battie but Mike Knight scored from Mark Hickey in the dying second of the period to give the Toros a 3-1 lead. The final period Mark Hickey and Paul Herron put the game out of reach for Pickering and gave the Toros 5-1 Victory and Mary Brown's Novice won the Consolation Championship. Neither team wqs quite as sharp as in the game played at Hampton but they made the game interesting for the fans. Bowmanville took a 2-0 lead in the first Deriod on gzoals by Mark Lavigne and Neil Ryan. Gerry Leddy set up the play for Lavigne's goal but Ryan's was unassisted as he stole the puck and shot it past the Collingwood goalie. In the second period, Col- lingwood brought their team to within one goal as they scored at the 1: 17 mark. Houston and Piche score for Mary Brown's Novices On Thursday, March 24th the Mary Browns Toros play- ed an exhibition game against Pickering Village and defeat- cd the host 6-0. David Smith and Troy Harmer shared the shutout, their l2th of the season. The first pcriod the big shooter was day Kelly as he scored twice with Mike Hous- ton and Paul Herron assisting. The second period Steve Piche smashed home his first goal this season right between the legs of the goaltender and almost embedded the puck into' the back of the mesh. .Mark Hickey and Kelly Balson did a super job in setting up Piche for this goal, The next shift out Hlickey also set up Mike Houston for his first goal of the season. Mike was parked in the siot like Esposito would be and as soon as that puck arrived on the blade, of his stick Houston let go a shot that caught the far side of the net before the goaltender could make any move. The 3rd period Mark Hickey and Kelly Balson each scored once wîth assists going to Jay Kelly and Chris Beck and the Toros went on to protect the 6-0 shutout for Smith and Harmer. The Graham IGA Atom squad played some fine hockey at the P.R.H.T., thus coming out the visitors in all 3 of their encounters winning the Overali Championship in the "A" Division, the only Bowmanville teamn to do so. On Thursday the first day of the tournament. they defcated Bay Ridges in a very hard fought close game 1-0. Mike Bail scored the only goal of the game assistcd by Jeff Jaques. Then, the same day, they also defeated Stouffville 3-2 to put themn into the Champion- ship. Scoring for the home team Bobby Canfield fromn Chris Lee, Andy Smith unas- sisted and Donald Hayes from Mike Kozar. In the Championship game, they defeated Lindsay 6-4.
