4 The Canadian Statesman, Iowmanville, October 12, 1977 PONTYPOOL Many of the local ladies are taking advantage of one or more courses that are being taught -,) Pontypool ladies in their .,omnes. Mrs. Fran Rat- cliff- has a Wednesday even- ing class of 17 who are le ýrning the art of cake decorating. We understand that Fran also has a class each Tuesday evening in Kirby school. Mrs.. Thea Branden- berg bas a crocheting group each Tuesday morning and a1so Tuesday evening and Mrs. Melissa Neal is instruct- ing a weaving and macrame class each Thursday evening in her home in Pinewoods Estates. There was also to be a course in dried flower arrangement but, because of lack of interest the course did flot materialize. Ballyduff Hall Conimittee held its first card party of the season on Friday evening. Seven tables of eurchre were played with winners Beulah Forrest, Grac e Fallis, Anit.a Brown, Louis McGill, Stani Wright, Richard Wood and Norma Cavano., Anther card party will follow in two weeks, Oct. 2lst. The bail season bas comTe to an end for this year. Richard- son F'arms of the Omnemee and District League were soundly defeated by a strong Bethany team which took the finals in three games straight. Ponty- pool Generals came out on top in, the, Lake Scugog League by defeating Port Ferry 7 to 4 on Thursday evenmng in Nestleton Park. Congratulations to- alh our baîl teams, flot only to the winners but also to the losers. You have provided excellent entertainrnent for your many fans for the past several months. Thanks also to the coaches, theî sponsors and anyone else who helped with the various teams. We will be lookinig forwa rd to the opening of the ball season i n 1978. The Omnemee League banquet, is schedufled for Saturday, Oct. l5th in the Omemee Légion and the Scugog League is holding its banquet in Black- stock Recreational Centre on Saturday, Oct. 29th. The Pontypool Parks Board is sponsoring a fund-raising dance. Proceeds are to go tow,ýards construction of tennis courts in the park. Bert Grant has kindly donatecl bis ser- vices as disc jockey for the evenirng. T he committee for last Saturday's dance with "The hian Page Band" were Mr. and Mr, s. Ralph Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Molloy. The next C of C dance will be the ana Mtasquerade on Oct. 2Pth (Sce Comning Events next week). Mrs. Sadie Kirk was taikeii t& hosoital last Wedrescday with pneumonia. She rtre homie on Thursday and is steadily improving. Thanksgiving D)ay dinner guests of Margaret and Stan- ley Wright were Mar. and Mrs. Tom Watson, Peterborough, Mrs. Frances Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bogard and David of Oshawa. Mvr. and Mrs. Laverne Finney and famnily visited with relatives in the Kinigston area over the hioliday weekend. Mrs. Carl MeMullen and Lloyd F allis have both returni- ed home from hospital and are recuperating satisfactorily fllo)wing surgery. We are also glad to see Cliff Richardson home from Oshawa Hospital. Home for Thanksgiving were Brenda and Ron Van Wieringen of Toronto, Bryan McKay of Owen Sound, Gordon Fallis, Toronto, Wayne Fallis and friend, Harris Glass of Owen Sound. Miss Debbie Richardson is employed as manager of a travel office in Lindsay. Congratulations to Ponty- ing Channel 9 news one evening last week and saw a special coverage of a report- er's visit to the workshop of a Mr. Slack in Ottawa. This retired gentleman builds miiniature ships with ail parts ione by hand. He i s an uncle of Terry Slack, a resident of Plinewoods Estates and coach of the Pontypool Generals. Mr. and Mrs. John, Van Wieringen and Karla of Kin- cardine- were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Wieringen. Several local gentlemnen took off t1his pis' week wiith camiper-s, boats, artillery, etc. on their annual mioos)e hunlt into varlous parts of Northern Ôntar.ýio. thers are planning on setting out later this week.
