4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 26, 1977 Section Two KENDAL Kendal Women's Institute met last Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Del Gosson for their October meeting. The president Mrs. Janet Dykeman opened the meeting with the Mary Stewart Collect and the Insti- tute Ode. The roll call was answered by naming a city in Great Britain and telling something of interest about that city. Letters of informa- tion were read fro:a two organizations on adopting a foster child. It was moved and seconded that a child be adopted through the Foster Parent Plan. $50.00 is to be sent to the Participation House in Bowmanville. An important part of our meeting was presenting life member- ship pins to two of the members Mrs. Helen Cour- oux and Mrs. Annie Cathcart. The presentation was made by the president. Plans were made for attending the Fun Fair at Hampton on Wednes- day. Dates to be remembered were November 7, the work- shop at Mrs. Wm. Ashtons and November 9 and 10 the Area Convention in the Royal York in Toronto. Lunch was pro- vided by Mrs. E. Foster, Mrs. D. Turansky and the hostess Mrs. Gosson. Many from this area attended two funerals this past week. Last Tuesday afternoon was Mr. John Mc- Kelvey's funeral service from Morris' Funeral Chapel. Sympathy is extended to the two remaining cousins, Miss Catherine Stewart and Mr. Garland Cathcart. Last Saturday was Mr. Lloyd Clydesdale's funeral also from Morris' Funeral Chapel. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Clydesdale and their family. Recent visitors with Miss Catherine Stewart were Mrs. Hector Stalker and her daughter Mrs. John Mona- ghan of Thornhill, Mrs. Dan Keane, Jeffery and Jenna Keane of Scarborough, also Mrs. Wilfred Gedge of Peter- borough who had attended the funeral of Mr. John Mckelvey. The Couples' Club held a Pot Luck Dinner Friday evening in the Sunday School Room. Following a big dinner a meeting was held. Plans were made for a trip to the Royal Winter Fair also a night of bowling if lanes could be reserved through the week as there was no Saturday evening open to go bowling. Later Mrs. R. Elliott showed pictures of Prince Edward Island, also Scotland ad England. On Saturday afternoon Kendal L.O.L. held a Rum- mage Sale and Bake Sale in the Orange Hall. A special draw was on a beautiful pair of table lamps. The lucky ticket was held by a Mr. J. Wilson of Peterborough. Mrs. George Hamilton (Mary) of Yarmouth N.S. is spending a couple of weeks with her mother, Mrs. Mar- garetta Stevens. Mrs. Walton of Winnipeg and Mrs. Eagling from England who had been visiting Mrs. Stevens returned to their homes this past week. Mrs. Irene Dunbar of Peter- borough and Miss Catherine Stewart spent Sunday, follow- ing service with Mr. and Mrs. R. Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Byers and family of Welcome spent Sunday with Mrs. Eleanor Foster. Anniversary Service was held Sunday afternoon in Kendal Church when the church was filled. Rev. Tiz- zard introduced the guest speaker Rev. Earl Nichol M.A.B.D. who had spent many years as a missionary in Korea before returning to the Toronto area where he preached before his retire- ment. Rev. Nichol's fine sermon taken from I Corin- thians was 'Responsible Reck- lessness.' The maie choir sang three anthems which was greatly appreciated, one anthem being 'When the Roll is Called up Yonder' after which Rev. Tizzard held a one minute silence in memory of Mr. Lloyd Clydesdale who was in the maie choir the week before at Shiloh Anniversary. The music was provided by Mrs. Foster at the organ and Mrs. K. Wood at the piano playing in unison. Rev. and Mrs. Earl Nichol are friends of Mrs. Margaretta Stevens and were visiting with her on* Sunay.
