The Shaw's U. C.W. Group of Trinity Church met at the home of Lola Cox for the October meeting. Several members were absent because of illness!. Many from Shaw's attended the 25th wedding anniversary party for Everett and Wil- helmina Wood at the Lion's Centre last Saturday night. Harold Hammond, as a long- time friend of both, Wilhelmina and Everett, was the capable Master of Ceremonies. The music, for the evening's dancing and listening enjoy- ment was provided by Ernie Archer a neighbour of the Wood family. The bride and groom of twenty-five years received some lovely gifts and they both expressed their sincere appreciation. Many Shaw's ladies attend- ed the Trousseau Tea at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hammond, Town, when their daughter Sharon: was hon-' oured prior to her forthcoming marriage. A fine auction sale of good furniture and dishes, mostly antique, was held at the home of Mrs. Lois Bragg, now of Town, but formerly of Shaws. There was a good crowd and the prizes were fairly high. Friends and neighbours are reminded of the annual Hallowe'en Party to be held at the school on Monday, 8 to 9:30 p.m. Free admission to ail in costume. Durham Region Gladiolus and Dahlia Society About twenty of the Society faithfuls gathered at the Old Baseline School on Friday, October 21 for the Autumn meeting of the Gladiolus and Dahlia Society. President Frank Samis chaired the meeting and after ahl enjoyed the fine pot luck supper he called on Mrs. Barnes to conduct draws for the lovely table d ecorationw, which she and several othe - members had provided. The winners were as follows: Minnie, Deeley, Gladys Fowler, Mr. Whitmee,' Hope Muckle, Joyce Markwick, Mr. Jose,, Marion Wright, Loraine. Delaney and Marg Killeen. Mr, Samis expressed his appreciation to the members for their assistance and support during his recent stay in hospital. He called on Doug Markwick to preside over the election of officers. Mr. Markwick called for'addition- al nominations after the secretary read the Nomin- ating Comittee report and since there were no further nominations the followinig were elected for the year i97. Barnes intends to go to the National Convention in San Diego California the Society unani- mously approved 'her as N.A.G.C. Director and Dele- gate. Similarly, Doug Mark- wick, Peterborough suggested his intention to attend the Canadian Convention in Win- nipeg and the membership is pleased to have Doug repre- sent the Durham ýRegion Society as Director and Dele- gate to the C.G.S. Mr. Samis lead in a short discussion of diseases and common problems of the Gladiolus grower and then Mr. Jose toQk the chair for the rest pîcture. The topic of the meeting was Hair Care and Styling. Two hairdr'essers from the Artistic Shop came a >nd demonstrated trims and cuts on some of the girls who volunteered. Questions were answered capably by the hairdressers and we e ail grateful for thleir h-eip. Leslie Taylor presented gi!fts tý o e to show our appreciation.
