From the opening face- off, Bowmanville controlled the game and tîme and time again bad excellent scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, these diances did not produce a àingle point for the Toros as the Red Wing goaltender put on a one man show. Toro attackers were robbed repeatedly as they faced the best goaltending seen to date. Shortly after the start of the second period the Oshawa Club got -a break and went abead 1-0 which at games end p roved to be the winner. The Toros could not be facilted as tbey outsbot their opponents 22-11. Congratulations are extend- èd to the Red Wing goalie for a flawless performance. Split With Oshawa "IAAA" H.L. Wood Minor Pee Wees visited Oshawa to play the Oshawa "AAA" on October 27 to loose 4-1. Bowmanville played a strong first period but the goaltending by Oshawa kept the Toros from getting on the scoreboard, stopping shot after shot. Catcbing the Toros ,ff gurd paid off for Oshawa wiha goal, putting the Oshawa club ahead 1-0. After the goal by tbe "AAA", Bowmanville seemed to be, disorganized and could not get together. Oshawa took advantageof the Toros diffi- culties and forced Donny Hayes to make many good saves. The Toros beld Oshawa off until the 7:06 mark of the third period when Oshawa popped in their second. A minute later the Toro's captain Scott Heard licked on a long pass up centre from Deryk Clark, resulting in a goal, making it 2-1 with stili hope for Bowmanville. It wasn't enough to spark the Toros to fight back and tie it up. Oshawa came back with two to end the scoring 4-1. On Saturday, November 5, this same Oshawa team visit- ed Bowmanville wbere the Toros displayed bow funda- mrental hockey will produce a winner. Superb playing by the wbole Bowmanville team made it easy to win 5-2 against the team which gave tbem such difficulties the week before. The Toros defencemen, Doug Brown, Kelly Matthews', Chris Michelson and Andy Smith displayed their talents with a solid defence. Oshawa opened the scoring at 3:07 mark of the first period with Bowmanville comîng right back to de it up at 6:45 on a break-away goal by Danny Weir, unassisted. This started the Toros flying. Witbin two minutes from the first Toro goal, Bowmanville popped in two more to go in fiont 3-1. These goals were scored, by Ray Cummings, assîsted by Kelly Matthews and Jay Sweet. Deryk Clark and Andy Smith assisting Danny Weir on bis second. In the second period, Bow- manville did flot let up and continued to dominate the Oshawa club. The only goal of the second period was scored by Danny Weir, unassisted to give hlm his Hat Trick. In the final period Oshawa made one last feeble attempt to break the Toro's momen- tum by getting their second goal, but the Toros kept pressing and scored again, putting Oshawa out of reacb. Bowmanville's sth goal was scored by Scott Heard and Ray Cummings assisting. The Toros were backed with fine goaltending by Don Hayes.. Tie Whitby 7-7 On Sunday, November 6 H.L. Wood Minor Pee Wees travelled to Whitby to take on an always powerful Whitby squad. Playing with a short staffed club, the Toros found tbemselves down by 2 goals after, only 2 minutes had elapsed into the game. The following 2 minutes saw our boys bounce back on, goals by Scott Heard, assisted by Deryk Clark and Mîke Hamel, Chuck Nash getting the second witb the assists going to Raymond Cummings. Wbitby retaliated immedi- ately to go ahead once again, only to have Scott Heard bit the mark in the dying seconds of the first period, assisted by Mike Hamel. The second frame saw 6 more goals with the Toros outscoring their opposition 4-2 in a period wbicb they totally dominated. Marksmen for the Truckers were Mike Hamel witb one and Scott Heard witb 3 to give hlm a total of five for the night. Fine positional play was the secret bebind these four markers and those re- sponsible, for setting them up were Gordie Rogers with 2 assists, Scott Heard, Mike Hamel and Doug Brown with one eacb. Witb the second period at a close the Toros were up by 2 and had a 29 to 13 shots on goal lead. In the third period the Toro club faded sligbtly but George Kennett came up witb tbe big saves when they needed tbem. Being wortby opponents Whitby came right back with a counter at 8:55. Just 13 seconds later an innocent Whitby point shot took its tol as it, found a body in front of the Toro's net and bounced between the pipes. This bit of luck tied up tbe game which it is bow it ended. A good team effort once again from our boys proved rewarding for botb players and fans alike. TOU'"' 8wlkgq Tykes Team Standings C.
