Hydro Chairman Robert Taylor said today that the increase necessary ta cover Hydro's costs next year would have been 9.8 per cent had it not been for extra revenue created by better than expect- ed operating resuits in 1977. Almost haif of the improve- ments in the 1977 financial position resulted frein a sub- stantial increase in export r power sales ta the United States and reduced cos' of admniistration, operation and maintenance. Mr. J. Marris, a histary teacher, is aur advisor. Our major fund-raising campaign for this year was the selling of lightbulbs. The abject of the campaign was ta raise maney for a portable stage for Senior and Junior Band performances and ta stage different groups, for aur dances. This campaign was fairly successful, however, as yet, the final figures are not available. Dramia Club By Bruce Brown For the past seven weeks two casts of t welve students from Bowmanville High School have been working with their directors, Bob Sheridan and Michael Lindop ta produce the comedy, 'Harvey. Harvey will be per- formed at 8:00 p.m. an Navember 23, 24, 25, 26 in the BHS auditorium. Harvey is the stary of Elwood P. Dowd, portrayed by Rab Bowman and Jae Coyle, and his friend Harvey, the invisible rabbit. An invis- ible rabbit is.not your average everyday friend, and when people can't see him they assume that he does not exist, and that Elwaod is a psycho- path. Once in a while Elwood's sister, Veta Louise Simmons, portrayed by Anne Auger and Lori Fraser, sees Harvey and begins ta worry about her own sanity. Veta takes Elwood ta the sanitarium but there is a misunderstanding and a psychiatrist, commits Veta instead. The complications that ensue are sure ta keep you laughing all the way thraugh. Plan ta attend. No Shed for Santa Parade Committee Bowmanville's Santa Claus parade committee is being told that it cannat build a shed in the works department's yard off Liberty Street. At a meeting in Hampton last week, the committee recommended that the Bow- manville site is not the proper place for the Santa Claus Parade building _because it lies in the fload plain of Saper Creek. However, this decision must still, be approved by Town Council. The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority does not allow construction of permanent buildings in a flood plain area. In a letter ta the municipal- ity's warks departmer' tir parade committee requested permission ta erect a building for storing equipment and preparing floats. "As previously indicated, it would be aur plan ta raise funds for the cost of the building through a Wintario grant and with the use of funds already collected, we would cover the cast of the Rate Increases estimated at $108 million--will be allocated amang the 352 municipal utilîties, Ontario Hydro's direct industrial cus- tomers, and the rural retail system. Under the anti-infla- tion guidelines establisbed for Hydro by the provincial government, this amount must be returned ta the customers," Mr. Taylor saîd. The rural retail system's share is currently estimated at approximately $17.8 mil- lion. The effect of the increase on indîv idual customners will vary depending on their consump- tion and classification. For example, a typical residential customer's înonthly bill af $35 xill increase by approximate- ly $175. Details of the'rate increase will be mailed ta 'all rural customners. Ahl bills issued after Jan. i will be pro-rated. 1977 rates will apply from the last meter reading this year ta Dec. 31. After that, the newly an- nounced 1978 rates will appiy. The increase reflects higher costs ta Ontario Hydra of providing service. Finda running mate.. Get a start on Christmas with te fami of Oshy awa Squar ER 9.
