Eagles Trounce Stouffville 7-3 Entire Teamî Turns'in Good Gamea By Don Wilcox Bowmanville Port Darling- ton Marina and Hotel Junior C's proved beyond a doubt tbey do behong on the same ice as Stouffville Clippers, record- ing a convincing 7 to 3 home' içe win Sunday night. The Clipper goaltending which held Eagles te 4 goals in the first two battles between these arch rivals proved they are human with Rick Marsh- man pulling himself after the fif th Eagle counter, then Brad Steel's turn to face the Marina sharpshooters giving up two goals. Clipper speedster Perry Brown, out one week with a leg injury, returned to action for this big game, had a slow first period start, then proved he is an'iron man, taking part in four consecutive shifts for coach Murray Sinclair and playing every position except goal. Eagles won on the strength of their bench with the three lines employed by coach Bill Cosburn, skating miles, covering for the Eagle idefenders who at times were under pressure of the Clipper fine passing game but were well contained by the back- checking forwards. Eagles' skating game was headed by Jerry Johnson who logged several miles along with speedster rookie Don Farrow and the bone rattling che cks by Gary Dusseldorp werle a few of the factors in the Eagle success. Eagles started the game as though they might have blown Clippers right out of the rink, socring four goals in the first five minutes. Captain Brian Simpson put Eagles on the scoreboard, a low drive assisted by John Conboy and Ted Puk at the 1: 00 mark. Steve Baker's goal, the result of hustle, assisted by Gary Cox and Jerry Johnson. Eagles got the power play in motion, a weapon which has beenquiet the past few games. John Conboy scoring from Ted Puk at 3:59. Then another power play counter Gary Cox from Jerry Johnson and John Conboy, time 5:23. Clippers' attack came to ife when Eaghes stopped fore- checking. First, Tim Quinn from Perry Brown, 9:55, then Andy Letch from B ill Meakes, time 13:04. Clippers' third goal Andy Leitch from Bill Meakes to finish first peried corl ng Eagle goaler Bob Koczulab, along wvith the team, settled down in the second scoring up theý checlking game. Ted Puk scored a dissallowed blueline drive called back due to timing of an Eagle penalty. The game clincher goal came from Rick Scott after fine forechecking by Gary Dussel- dorp, earning an assist, 15:37. Dusseldorp caught Clipper goaler Marshman off guard scoring a centre ice drive at the 15:46 mark. 1The only third period goal came from veteran Gary Cox assisted by Ted Puk and Brian Simpson, a perfectly timed pass pattern on the power play, time 3:30. This win gives Eagles a bit of daylight in the first place race Eaghes 28 to Clippers 24 points. In each case the competition was stiff and although the Toros lost both games they were net greathy outplayed. On Monday, November 7 the Toros travelled te Port Perry. In the first period Port Perry scored once and the game remained at this score until late in the third. The play was close, end te end and exciting. The Toros couldn't b*t a -goal although they had many opportunities. Port Perry then popped in two quick ones in the third period. Kevin Ward scored the Toros hone marker 4n the 3-1 defeat with a minute remainîng in the game. On Saturday, November 19, Thornhihl Minor Midgets visi- ed at Hampton Arena for an exhibition match against the Toros. They are an excellent club that thrive on hustle and back checking. The first period was played to a standstill until Thernhill tallied in the final minute. The visitors took advantage of momentary lapses to score twice again. Toro Captain Scott Clifton, then replied for th e home sîde on a short handed effort. The Toros played an excellent third period but once again they could not find'the net. The final score 5-1 did not refleet the close play. The defence played their best game to date. Goaltender Brian Smith played strongly also. The Toros will be more competi- tive, when the forwards develop more scoring. MvcGregor IDA Bantams Split in League Play O WAsb CO VOLKSWAGEN LTD .
