4 The Canadilan Statesmani, Bowmanville, November 30, 1977 Section Two O"BITUARIES J. HARRY JOSE J.H. (Harry) Jose of New- castle died suddenly at his home on November 14, 1977 at the age of 78. He was the son of the late Stephen and Eleanor Jose of Newcastle. Educated at Newcastle Public and High Scliools, he lived ail his life on the farm wlere lie was born. Harry Jose played an active role tliroughout his life in his church, ini civic affairs, and in agricultural and horticultural organizations.* At the time of lis deatli,lie was president of Durhamn Growers Co-opera- tive Cold Storage, the Bow- manville District Gladiolus Society and the Newcastle Senior Citizens Club. He was a past president of Eastern Breeders Inc., the Durham County Hostein Club, Durham Central Fair, the Northiumberland and Durhiam Apple Growers, the Canadian Gladiolus Society, the New- castle Horticultural Society and tlie Newcastle Lions Club of whidh lie was the last active charter member. He was a mnember of the West D5urham Canacian Club. A former Reeve of the village of Newcastle, lie spent many, years' on the village council and the scliool board. He was a former cliairman of tlie Memorial Hospital Board, and the Newcastle Commun- ity Hall Board of Manage- ment. He lieaded the com- mittee tliat organized the Newcastle Village Centennial in 1956. In Newcastle United Churcli, Harry Jose was active in many capacities throughout his if e, serving in the Sunday Scliool, on the Board of Stewards, and on tlie Session. At 1tle time of his deatli lie was'a member of tlie session and recording steward as well as lay delegate tp Presbytery. He lad be en recorcling steward for 23 years. He was a past master of Durham Masonic Lodge, and a past principal of Palestine Chapter, Royal Arcli Masons. He, always lad time. to discuss flowers, or apples, or Holst'ein-Friesian cattle witli tliose wlio lad problems, and gave unstintingly of lis time to support the numerous organizations lie lieaded, and others. He frequently ap- peared as a judge at flower shows. He won the coveted Master Breeder shield from tlie Hostein-Friesian Associa- tion of Canada in recognition of lis success un developîng a top quality herd. He received the Service Diploma from tlie Ontario Association of Agri- cultural Societies for lis services in tliat fiel1d, arrd thep Service Diplomraaof the Ontario Horticultural Associa- tion for contributions to, horti- culture. Hlarry Jose is survived by lis wife, tlie former Mary Louise Cryderman, by tliree sons, and seven granddhuld- ren. The eldest son, Donald W. Jose lives in Guelph, Francis W. Jose is at, Newcastle and -Dr. H. Douglas Jose in Saskatoon. His eldest grand- son, John, is serving as a teacler in Lesotho, an Soutliern, Africa. The funeral was conducted by tlie Rev. David Spivey from the Nortlicutt Elliott Funeral Home on November 17, with interment at Bond Head Cemetery, Newcastle. Pal Bearers were Ross Allun, Alfred Perrin, Albert Pearce, William Allun, Jack Crago and Murray P aterson. ELEANOR GR ACE DA DSON Friends, relatives and nieiglibors were saddened and slocked to learn of tlie sudden deatli of Eleanor Grace Dad- son, aged 49, on Tuesday, November 22nd, 1977, in Memorial Hospital, Bowman- ville. Funeral Cliapel, with Ardi- deacon- Thomas Gracie officiating. Paîl-bearers were Messrs.ý Tom Wrighit, Bob Nicliolîs, Gren MeQuat, George Char- land, Jini Lunn and Bob Gingeil. Among the many beautiful flor-al tokens received, attest- ing to the esteem in which the deceased was lield were offerings from friends, neigli- bors and relatives, Goodyear and Local 189, Strathaven Nursing Home, Canadian Tire Corp.
