The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 7, 1977 15 There were many exciting moments during the Bowmanville Lions Club's annual Turkey Roll Night on Friday at the Lions Centre. But, one of the most interesting was the draw for a 1978 Monte Carlo automobile. When the winning ticket was drawn, the winner turned out to be Mrs. Bev. Ells of Bowmanville with ticket number 263. At left is Lions President Don Marsden. December 6, 1977 Judge R.B. Baxter presided with Acting Crown Attorney G. Pollitt and duty counsel M.B. Kelly. Robert E. 'Sandy' Brown, 3 Southway, Bowmanville, was fined $20 and costs or two days for failure to produce a driver's license November 12th. Kenneth Allin, 17, R.R. 4 Bowmanville, was charged between July 2 and 4 'did have in your possession a sports car knowing that it was obtained by an indictable offense.' He pleaded 'guilty'. A car was taken from a camping area and abandoned in Darlington Township with extensive damage done to it. He was on probation at the time. He claimed the damage was done after the car was abandoned. The crown asked for a jail term. He was remanded out of custody to March 14 to see if his father can help with his rehabilitation and give him this break. A pre sentence report will be prepared and he is to seek employment. Until March 14, he will observe a 9 p.m. curfew unless accompan- ied by both parents. Douglas W. Lang, 94 Main St.N. Waterdown, pleaded 'guilty' through counsel D. Barber to driving carelessly on highway 401 on July 17. While overtaking a tractor trailor, his van left the road, went into south ditch, then rolled over. The fine was $150 and costs in default 7 days. Peter J. Gearin, 17, 120 Anndale Ave., Willowdale, was charged September 29 at Mosport, 'did commit the offense of trespassing.' He pleaded 'guilty.' He entered the race track which was marked with a fence around it. The fine was $20 and costs in default 2 days. Bench warrants were issued for Ronald Conlin, Lawrence Spencer, Ralph Stewart and Robert Howard. Bench war- rant in discretion for J. Gallagher. Independent Equipment Sales Ltd., 7200 Highway 27, Woodbridge, pleaded 'not guilty' in absentia to a charge laid March 23. An officer with the Ministry checked a 3 panel truck in conjunction with a 2 axle trailer on highway 2. The driver producea a copy ol a certificate which showed the load had scrap batteries coming from the U.S. to Toronto. This truck showed no commercial vehicle license and does not have one. The fine was $50 and costs, in default distress. Ronald Hendrikx, 19, 129 King St. E., Bowmanville, was charged August 13, with having in his possession a 14 foot boat, knowing it to have been obtained by an indictable offense. He pleaded 'guilty'. With two co-accused the boat was recovered. The theft occurred in Hastings. He was on probation at the time. Counsel said he hopes to go to university. The judge com- mented that a chap who bas sufficient intelligence to want to go to university should know enough to keep out of trouble. He was placed on probation for two years with terms to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He is not to associate with any of the persons involved in the in- cident. He will report to probation officer once a month and observe a 10 p.m. curfew for the first six months. Thos. Dwyer, 16, 247 Sunset, Newcastle, pleaded 'guilty' to driving after consuming over .08 on August 19. Const. Fitzgerald investigated a single car accident. He had a temporary instruction permit. Tests were .15. At the de- tachment he used profanity and a lady was present. The crown said 'he doesn't value a driver's license.' The fine was $50 and costs. indefault 3 davs. License suspension 3 months. Wins New Monte Carlo in Lions Club's Draw Provincial Court ORONO JAMBOREE The December show packed the Orono Town Hall for another of Country and Blue- grass entertainment. A very heart warming part of the afternoon was to see so many teenagers in the audience and reports from them acknow- ledged they enjoyed the after- noon of the country style music. All the Guests--Tim Toye, Lana Malcolm, Johnny Curtis, Ron Luxton, along with Bonnie and Jim George sang their hearts out as the House Band of Fay Adams and The Country Hits provided the back-up music. A Bluegrass entertainer, Dave Harbin and one of the best yodelers, Bill Woodward also appeared on the show. Our M.C. Sterling Mather kept the show rolling with his jokes and a job well done with his recitation. It is a credit to have something in the Community that is enjoyed by the young and the old. Door Prize winners were Minnie Horner, Cold Springs, Todd Wilson, Orono and Annette Harness, Newton- ville. The next show will be on January 8, 1978 at 2 p.m. in the Orono Town Hall. See you there. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Mrs. Debra Dodds, 25, 20 Darlington Rd., Oshawa pleaded 'guilty' to driving after consuming over .08 on August 18. P.C. Moon ob- served a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner in Newcastle village. She drove 3 blocks on the wrong side of the road. Tests were .15 and .14. It was her second offense. The fine was $200 and costs, in default 10 days. Given one month to pay. John T. McLaughlin, 32, Mississauga, was charged October 4, 'did drive after consuming over .08'. He pleaded 'guilty'. He was eastbound on 401 and entered the median. A pup tent was behind his car and turned over. Tests were .15 and .14. The fine was $100 and costs, in default 5 days with license suspension 3 months. Given one month to pay. Bradley Miskie, 16, R.R. 2 Newcastle, and now Whitby, pleaded 'guilty' to a charge laid October 17 at Clarke High School where he took a sum of money from a wallet in a locker. He was placed on probation for two years, to report once a month to officer. Geoffrey Head, 21, 15 Cougar Ct. Scarborough, pleaded 'guilty' to 7 charges of wilful damage to police cruisers, officers cars at the detachment, with total damage $834.31. This took place September 14. An RCMP officer was investigating a stolen car when Head stopped to help. The officer smelled alcohol and asked him to get in the cruiser. Const. D. Smith and Ostrander came to help and Const. Smith was assault- ed in the execution of his duty. The accused has a previous record. The crown said a jail term is called for. On the first seven charges he was given one month for each tO run con- secutive, in addition, on his release probatiol for two years with general terms, to report to officer once a month and make restitution within 6 months of jail release. For the assault on Const. Smith he was given 3 months to run consecu- tive to any sentence 'how imposed. THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE By- Law No. 77 -82 Being a by-law to designate the Old Kirby School of Architectural and Historic Value WHEREAS the Ontario Heritage Act, 1974, authorizes the Council of a municipality to enact by-laws to designate real property, including ail the buildings and structures thereon to be of historic or architectural value or interest; and WHEREAS the Council of the Town of Newcastle has caused to be served upon the owner of the lands and premises known as Old Kirby School, situated at the junction of Highway 115 and Concession 7, former Township of Clarke, now in the Town of Newcastle in the Region of Durhcan, and upon the Ontario Heritage Foundation, notice of intention to so designate ne aforesaid real property and has caused such notice of intention to be published in a newspaper having a general circulation in the municipality once for each of three consecutive weeks; and WH E R EAS the Old Kirby one room public school building and property have a very significant historical and architectural value and interest to the Town of Newcastle and its-people in that it is of original frame construction, will be 100 years old in 1978, and is one of the last remaining one room school houses in its original state, in the Town of Newcastle; and WHEREAS no notice of objection to the proposed designation has been served upon the Clerk of the municipality; NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. There is designated as being of historic and architectural value of interest the real property more particularly described in Schedule "A" hereto, known as the Old Kirby School at the junction of Highway 115 and Concession 7, former Township of Clarke, now Town of Newcastle. 2. The Town Solicitor is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be registered against the property described in Schedule "A" hereto in the proper land registry office. 3.
