(Dick) Budel Mr. Budel worked fdr a number of yers with General Mtors of Canada prior ta the overseas assignment. His experience in Canada in- volved responsibîlity in the Information Systems, Accounts Payable and Audit Departments. In 1972, Mr. Budel"successfully completed a Reistered Industrial Accouaunt course of study. During the overseas assign- ment, whiclh involved consid- erable travel, Mr. Budel was responsible ta review the security and operations of data centers at a number of GM divisions in tçn different countries. Language problems durîng the time overseas did flot present a problern ta M4r. Budel since he is fluent in five different languages. His wife, Klaske, is fluent in Jour different languages and ýhis young famnily, who learned ta speak while overseas, are mnaw in the process of learning English. His present assignment in- valves senior and analytical responsibility in the Financial Department of General Motars. The Budel family plans ta ýreside in Newcastle, ,Ontario. Sees Benefits In Western Developmnent A resident of Waverley Gardens area believes that development west of Martin Rd. would be a gaod idea if it gave the existing Waverley residents a community ta identify with. Dennis Sadier said last week that at- present, Waverley Gardens is connected ta the rest of Bawmanvllle by noth- ing mare that a pedestrian tunnel beneath Highway 57. "I feel that a little bit of nawhere lias a right ta be a part of somewhere," Mr. Sadier said. He was referring ,ta the Durham Region's suggestion that an additianal 6,000 ta 8,000' persans. be permitted in a residental and. industrial develoipment in western Bow- manville.' About 1300 acres there are in a special study area until a decision bas been reached on the best use of the land. At present, some develop- ment is slated for nortbeast Bawmanville and Mr. Sadler noted that if development in twa areas of the tawn occurred there wauld be advantages. Several developers campeting far business wauld result in mare attractive communities being built, he stated. Ten thousand dollars was cabled Friday ta the World Council of Churches, Geneva, by The United Church of Canada for aid ta victims of three recent cyclones in southern India. This is the second grant made in November by the United Churcli Warld Develop- ment Service and Relief Committee. A similar amount was sent last week ta aid the people of-the Mathare Valley in Kenya, who had been made homeless by a fire which devastated the large squatter tawn outside Nairobi. The grant ta India is in anticipation of an appeal by the World Counceil of Churches for additianal funds ta the $208,000 being held by the National Council of Churches in India for such em ergpeies.
