Anglican Chrch News Members of the congrega- tion, with the Choir and Servers, led a besson and Carol Service in St. George's Church at 11:15 a.m. on Sund.ay, December 18. SMr. Wayne Linton, Head Server, assisted by hîs wife, Lynn, hosted aServers' Party on Saturday. They went to the Terrace for roUler skating and then hack to their home for gifts and supper. At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nicole Christine Dawson, daughter of Brian and Nelda Dawson, was baptized in St. George's Church. Brian's parents from Manchester, England and Canadian relatives and friends of the family attended the service and reception. The Fellowship Club of St. George's The Fellowship Club of St. George's had a pot luck supper on Saturday at 7 p.m. Their auction provided somne money to assist at the local hockey arena . The Club will be distributing their Christmas flowers this week. Christma s Eve Servicewil be held at 11:30 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church and regular Services will be held Christmas Day. U.C.W. News The Newcastle United Church Women held their general meeting at the home of Mrs. Marilyn Martin, on Monday evening, December l2th. The President, Mrs.- Eileen Allin, opened the meeting with- a Christmas Poem and. then proceeded with a Christmas with the business. The Secre- tary, Mns. Lesle Campbell gave a resumne of the groups' activities. Mrs. Kay Powell, in the absence of the treasurer, Mrs. Jean Holmes, presented the Treasurer's report, which showed a busy and prosperous year. The President rend the budget for 1978 which was approved. The Christmas Worship was taken by Mesdames Marjorie Caswell, Marion Allin and Bessie Dean. The hymn, 0 Little Town of Bethlehem was sung, followed by the Scrip- ture depicting the Christmas story read by Bessie. Marion gave a Christmas reading, after whicl hetlw in Silent Night was sung. The medi- tation on Candies was given by Marjorie, showing how the Kendo! Marion led in prayer and the singing of Joy to the World closed the Worshîp period. Mrs. Ann Spîvey introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Allan Haldenby, the wife of the Anglican Church Rector. As part of their ministry, Rev. and Mrs. Haldenby had spent nine years in the Yukon at Dawson City. She depicted some of the activities and customs of' the residents of this city during the month of December and at Christmas. She also >related some of their expeniences and those of some of the people. This was presented la a very interesting Martin, expressed the thanks of the -ladies to Mrs. Haldenby for coming and joining in the Christmas meeting. The ladies in charge, Mesdames Myrtle Pearce, Jean Rickard and Madeleine Buckley served a deliclous lunch and a social hour was enjoyed. The President thanked Marilyn for opening hier home and then closed the meeting with Prayer. United Church News Newcastle United Church was the scene of the most impressive Christmas Pageant yet. Pnior to the presentation, Gordon Jose lit the fourth Advent Candie, proclaiming the Celebration of the Hope that Christ brought into the Wonld. plentiful as expected. Among those taking part was Doris Roberts from the Kendal His Antiques. She and Elva Reid also have a shop in Kirby. As commentators M,,arilyn Martin, Erla Jose and Glenn Allin read the Christmas story, the actors appeared. Angel Gabriel acted by Ronnie Verheek appeared and spoke to Mary played by Susan Wagar, whom the Angel told to visit her cousin Elizabeth (Gail Rickard>. In the, next scene Joseph (Stephen Selby> led a live donkey on which Mary serenely sat. Typical of donkeys, it needed a lti persuasion to move, and was pushed from behind by a gentleman in a tweatieth century suit. As Joseph and Mary reached the stable, a live baby, two-month old Ticia Pearce, peacefuliy lay in the manger. The Shepherds, David Spivey, Gary and Glen Schmid, hearing of the Birth of Jesus, went to Bethlehem to see the Baby Jesus and on their return spread the news of the Birth. Then entered Herod (David Rickard) and his High Pniest (Newton Selby). As the Star appeared in the East the Wise Men (Bill Selby, Jack Chard and Calvin Allin) followed it to the manger and presented their gold, frankinsense and myrrh. After the Wise Men presented their gifts, the children and members of the congregation also wenit forward, pnesenting their, White Gifts and offering, the climax to a truly meaning- ful Christmas,. The Christmas Concert to have been presented by the Sunday School Chîhdnen on Sunday evening, was cari- celled due to t he inclement weather. On Thursday evening, Carol singîag, beginning at the Church at 8:45 p.m. will be eoyd followed by coffee and mnepie at the Manse. On Christmas Day, the Service will be held at the regular hour of 10:30 a.m. Senior Citizens' Christmas Party On Thursday evening, December lSth over seventy Senior Citizens enjoyed a Christmas Party. Mr. George Buckley opened the meeting with two minutes' silence in memory of Mr. Harny Jose who had been President since the inception of the Senior Citizens' programmes hene. The meeting was then turned over to Mrs. Queenie Fletcher who presented the following programme. Canols by Rev.
