There is also a picture of four fascinated youngsters whose faces reflect their feelings. Splash Spot Bringing. any com- 's munityproject idea to S reaîity costs a great )00 deal and these costs corne in many forms - time,, money, human energy, etc. Financing a project today such as the )00 SPLASH complex in- volves expenses in sums expressed in figures containing many zeros - when you can get a firm price. In such projects pre- 100 liminary discussions are held with architects and builders to get some idea of probable costs of the building in the form and with the equipment oo to mneet the expectations of the committee. Finding the appropri- ate firm with experi- ence in similar projects is not usually a problem. Of ten they find the 00committee as the competition for con- tracts is normally pretty keen. Through discussions with the project com- 00 ~mittee several 'firmns may make presenta- e'e tions outlining how they M would translate the 'ex- pressed needs and de- sires of the committee into a building design. 0f ten such presenta- tions and plans are illustrated by drawings, pictures and occasion- all;y, on-site visits to existing buildings. Costs must be project- ed to the anticipated rates at the expected time of construction. The shorter the interval between the costing and the actual construction the more reliable is the estimate. For this reason, among others, the SPLASII ommittee, has planned to begin construction of the pool complex in the faîl of projected cost of $600,000 will in fact be sufficient to pay for the w cost of the building at that time. It is the challenge of the finance committee to achieve their goal of raising the funds in time for the building commit- tee to assume their responsibilities in the total project.
