Lockhart School Christmas Concert On Monday evening, Dec. 19, the staff and students of Lockhart Public School pre- sented their annual Christmas Concert. Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. Preston spent time training the choir and their help was appreciataed by Principal Mrs. Gladys Green- wood and staff Mr. Gary Eames, Mrs. Phyllis Barr, Mrs. Carol Bailey and Mrs. Diane Rowe. The program was as follows: songs, Let's Light the Christmas Tree and Christmas Wish by all the pupils.,Grades 4 and 5 then sang It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas followed by Choral Reading. Grades 1, 2 and 3 then presented a musical play, The Grinch, followed by a rhythm band selection. Christmas Health Hustle was then given by Grades 5 and 6. Apiano duet by David Brown and Mrs. Jensen was then enjoyed. After the Junior Choir sang Do Re Mi and My Favourite things and Kooka- burra, trtional Carols were sung, while the youngsters waited for jolly old Santa to appear and distribute bags of candy. Anglican Church News Christmas Eve Services were well attended at St. Saviour's, Orono, and St. George's, Newcastle with spe- cial music by the choirs. On Christmas Day, regular services were hejd at 8:30 and at 11: 15. New Year's Eve service will be held at St. George's at eight o'clock, regular services will be held New Year's Day. United Church News At the Newcastle United Church on Christmas morning many beautiful poinsettias graced the sanctuary. Donors of these flowers were Mrs. Bessie Rupert, the Enwright family, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Naylor, the U.C.W., Mr. and Mrs. C. Roser, and the Storks family. Simon Spivey, older son of Rev. and Mrs. David Spivey, lit the Christmas candle, proclaiming God's birthday, the day True Light came into the world. Mrs. Ann Spivey read the scripture from Luke 2. verses 1 to 20.' Mr. Glenn Allin sang the beautiful, O'Holy Night. Rev. Spivey opened a gift from Mrs. Storks' Sunday School Class. The young children were invited.forward to show their gifts, some useful, some to wear and some to enjoy. At this time Rev. Spivey related briefly the story of Scrooge's Christmas, with help from the children. The prayer for this week is, Lord, may my spirit soar and my heart be glad at the message of the Christmas Angels!1 On Thursday evening, Dec. 22nd about fifty persos enjoy- ed Carol siag'ing arounid Emily, Baldwin, King, Bea- ver, Robert and Mill Streets, finishing at the Manse where hot beverages, mince pies and ice cream were enjoyed. After the ladies had consumed a goodly portion of these scrumptious desserts, Ross Metcalf favoured us with two vocal solos and a selection on the mouth organ accom- panied on the piano by Doug Dewell. Our two Hampton boys then led us in singing Christmas Carols. Everyone enjoyed this musical inter- lude. Mrs. Mountenay opened the business part of the meeting. The Ode was sung with Mrs. Burows at the piano, followed by repeating the Collect in unison. The roll call - A Christmas Verse - was well answered; members also ma- king a donation to the Golden Plough Lodge. The minutes were read and approved. A letter was read from Marn- wood Lodge thanking the W.I. for the corsages for the patients for Christmas. An invitation was received from the U.C.W. inviting us to their Pot Luck Supper on Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. The turkey dinner which we are catering for the U.C.W. of Enniskillen was discussed. Mrs. Allin introduced our speaker, Miss Lynda Cald- well, Home Economist for Durham and Northumber- land, who spoke on Agricul- ture as a Canadian Industry. It is the largest business in Canada, 35 per cent of the work force are connected to the farming industry with the ratio of one farm worker to two workers in industry con- nected to farming.
