Minutes and Treasurers report were given. Corres- pondence related to Officer's Conference, May 2-4 at Waterloo, and that we send a delegate, also thank you notes. ,,,donation to Participation use was approved. Mrs. R. 4Sicera was named to the nominating committee. The, roll cail "Something I would lige the Public to know about the Women's Institute" was ad~swered by 22 members. The theme for Ithis month was Citizenship and was convened by Mrs. Blair and her commit- tee., She introduced Mrs. Howard Jeffery whose topic was World Affairs centering her remarks to the vast continent of Africa. She began by telling how continent was divided up among the various European countries. In 1960 changes began to take place in Africa and natives wished to control. She told four stories' of how in somne ,places these changes proved- beneficial, and two which were very msd anddîstressing. Ten Days of WorldDevlopment set up by most churches, in order to make us aware of the changes good or bad in vworld develop- ment. There is enough food for any country, provided we work at it and not abuse its availabilîty. Mrs. Flintoff replied to the motto "Resolu- tions are the voice of the people let yours be heard" saying they are for change or alteration, but the affect on area district or country, must be an overaîl consideration. A resolution was presented, passed and sent along to iropesr authority. Meeting closed with "God Save the Queen." The paper has been a weekly visitor with me ail of my lifetime. My parents were neyer without it and now that I amn very much a senior citizen 1 dio enjoy reading its contents and viewing the excellent pctures. îI hope you and your family ate well and will enjoy 1978 with its many surpr ises. Bowmanville certainly has changed for me when I remiember King Street of old, Igaving my many footprints a$ I lived on, King Street. Iowever I arn grateful for nemories and Vanstones' bill has wonderful thougts for me eýpecialIy in the winter time, togogganing and ice skating oh the pond there were good, tmes or ail young people. Soeday 1 will have to write a bik on the- real happy times of the teen years, including_ 1914 not s0 happy. It is a real inter so far and 1 hope it soon moderates. ARTHUR JOHN (JACK) BAKER lis many friends, relatives and neigbbours were shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Arthur John Baker in Bowmanville on Saturday,January 28, 1978. He was in his 55th year. Born in Solina on February_ 10, 1923, he was the son of the late William Thomas Baker, and Mildred Rundie. He was educated in Solina and Bowmanville. On June 6, 1946 he was married to June Morris. A resident of Bowmanville- for 22 years, he was employed at Goodyear Canada Ltd. for the past 26 years. A sports enth usiast, he was active in playing, coaching and promo- tion of various sports activit- ies for many years. He was an active member of the, Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 178 for many years and was at the time'of his death, Branch Sports Officer and Third Vice Presîdent. He was also a member of the Queens Own Rifles Br. of the Canadian Legion, Toronto having landed with that Regi- ment on D Day in France on June 6, 1944. Surviving are bis wife June, children Terry, Linda, Gary and Maureen, a brother Alan (Roscoe> and sister Louise. Also surviving are six grand- eidren, Leigh-Ann, Chris- topher, Laurie, Douglas, Shane and Amanda. Mr. Baker rested at the Morris leuneral Chapel with Archdeacon Tihomas Gracie con(Jucting funeral services on Tluesdiay. Mrs. Albert C'ole presided at the chapel <rgan. A full Legion Service was hel(] on Monday evening. Pall-hearers were Messrs. Bob Hilditch, Seth Hunt, Stan Dunn,, Ron Richards, Ted Sheehan and Art Sheehan. Cremaion followed. HeIpyour HeaQrt...
