Honour Newcastle Couple Thomas and Alecia Spencer of Newcastle Village were the guests of honor last Saturday evening at the Kings Garden restaurant in Bowmanville. The event was a party in honor of their 45th wedding anniversary, which is coming Up on March 15th. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer are pictured above with their son and daughter-in-law, Rolly and Elsie Spencer during the course of the evening. With so much illness and flu, the Newcastle Horticultural Society members are still optimistic about filling a -bus wîth passengers ta attend the Spring Flower and Garden Show at the Automotive Build- ing at Exhibition Place on Saturday, March 4th. 1 Miss Darothy Trenwith and Mrs. Douglas Cunningham, Toronto, formerly of Bowman- ville, have returned from thlree weeks in Rockport, Texas, wîhere they visited Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Symons, Mrs. Percy Gould, Bowman- ville, is also visiting the Symons' who are residents of Coîborne in Ontario's warmner seasons. Ram w-as prevalenit while Miss Trenwith was in Texas but the temperature was 72 degrees F when she lef t to came home. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Murphy and Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley spent last Monday, February 20, in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ormiston, Bowmanville were Saturday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hunt, Pontypool were Sunday visitors wîth her parents, the Powell's. Newcastle Lions held their regular meeting last Wednes- day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade were Thursday overnight guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Chiswell, Cambridge, and attended the 74th party of the Queen Rebekah Lodge there. Past District Governors of Lions District A3 and their wives enjoyed Saturday evening at the Heron Gate, Locust Hill. Mr. and Mrs. George Kimbaîl were recent Sunday callers with Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Bowen, Orano. The ladies of the Euchre Club met at the home of Mrs. Ellen Duxbury last Tuesday. Mrs. Alice Quinney enjoyed Sunday dinner with Bill and June Sellers, Bawmanville. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gilmer and Lyn, Port Hope, were Sunday visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Wade, Oshawa, were Satur- day evening dinner guests of his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pearce were Sunday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Aluin. Their entertainment of slides of their variaus trips and family pictures was much enjayed by the Allin's.' On Saturday evening, February 25, Tom and Alecia Spencer were most pleasantly surprised when 40 of their family members gathered at the Kings Garden restaurant, Bowmanville, ta honour them on their upcoming 45th wedding anniversary an March lSth. On their arrival, the bridewa presented wîth a lovely cor-sage. After enjoying Chinese food, aIl returned ta the residence of their sonand daughter-in-law, Rowland and Elsie Spender where a money tree with $127 worth of branches was présented ta the happy couple. Bey and Don Lake, Bey and Ed Dawe, Scarboraugh, and Phil and CaroI Fox have returned from a week's holiday in Nassau.' Mr. and Mrs. Jack Skelding and girls, Port Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Lake and family' and Randy Lake were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Lake, Sr. Mr. and Mrs, Alfred Brown, Bowmanville, were Saturday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. William Lake, Sr. Orono District Credit Union Meeting On Monday, February 2th at the Newcastle United Church, about 80 members of the Orono District Credit Union enjoyed their annual meeting. After a roast beef dinner, for which Mr. Robert Allin extended a vote of thanks ta the UCW, Mr. William Kean introduced the head table guests. Mr. Alfred Perrin introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Lloyd Libke, who, with the aid of slides, gave an informa- tive address an his life in Tanzania, where he was a member of the security force gurigthe Willîamson Dîamond Mine. This was an open pit mine, praducing about 2000 carats per day. Mr. Angus Loucks thanked the speaker and presented him with a gift. Mr. Clarence Martin, Presi- dent, conducted the business meeting. Secretary Joan Sutcliffe read the minutes. Reports of the varioius committees were presented. Treasurer-Manager Leila Werry thanked the CIAG for the complimentary matches and jar openers. Voting on new officers was unnec.essary as ail were put in by acclamation. Mr. Alfred Perrin presented Robert Hancock with a scroll and book in appreciation of his work. Mrs. Hancock was presented with a pot of hyacinths. Door prizes, compliments of CIAG, Curvply, J.A. Smith Ca., Hollingshead and St. Mary's Cement were won by variaus attendants, Clarence Martin, Mr. Loucks, Dorothy Perfect, Jack- Moffatt, Sterling Mather, June Heard, Joan Sutcliffe, Mrs. Madill, Mr. Hubbard, Bill Gilbank and M. Hartwig. At the close of the meeting, Mr. William Kean expressed a vote of thanks ta President Clarence Martin. Anglican Church News The Altar Guîld of St. George's Church met at the home of Mrs. Jean Cochrane on Monday, February 2th. Mr. Wayne Linton and Rev. Allan Haldenby attended the meeting of the Deanery Council for Durham and Northumberland held at St. John's Church, Port Hope, on Tuesday evening. The Regioînal Dean, William Rainey, showed the film on Canterbury Cathedral which is narrated by Prince Charles. A splendid representation of Guides, Scouts, Brownies, Cubs, Beavers, Venturers, Rovers, Rangers and their, leaders attended the Service in St. George's at 11: 15 on Sunday. They are a credit ta the town and the movement. Thinking Day was February 22nd and commemorates the birthday of Lord Baden Powell wha with Lady Powell founded the movement. Rev. John Gardiner of St. Mark's, Port Hope, showed pictures of North Canoe on Sunday, evening ta the Sidesmen of St. George's and their families.
